Carpets in a busy Mulhuddart home
Mulhuddart is mostly estates built over the last few decades: semis and terraces, duplexes and apartment blocks, with Tyrrelstown and Hollystown adding newer developments to the north. Many of them are home to young families, and many are rented. Both show up in the carpets.
In a house with small children, the living room carpet is a play mat, a picnic spot and a racetrack for toy cars. The hall and stairs take school bags, wet coats and football boots. Light carpets fitted by a builder or a landlord show all of it within a year or two.
We clean those carpets where they are, with a portable hot-water extraction machine. Spots and lanes are pre-treated first, then hot water and cleaning solution are rinsed through the pile and pulled straight back out with the dirt.

Children's stains: what to expect
Parents usually ask about one particular mark. Here's an honest guide to the ones we meet most in family homes:
| Mark | What to do before we come | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Juice and squash | Blot with a little cold water | Usually comes out; red and orange drinks can leave a faint tint |
| Milk and yoghurt | Blot, then dab lightly with cold water | Comes out well, and the sour smell goes once it's rinsed from the pile |
| Vomit | Lift what you can, blot, cold water | Usually comes out with the smell, unless it has soaked into the underlay |
| Play dough and slime | Let it dry, then pick off as much as possible | Most of it lifts; coloured slime can stain |
| Nail varnish or hair dye | Don't rub it | Often permanent; tell us before we quote |
Two rules cover nearly everything: cold water, never hot, and blot rather than scrub. Scrubbing frays the pile and spreads the mark, and supermarket sprays leave a sticky residue that collects dirt.
Pets add their own list. Muddy paw prints from the back garden lift easily, and a new puppy's accidents usually come out if they're dealt with early. Urine that has been left to soak through to the underlay is a different matter: we can treat it, but a trace or a smell on damp days can remain, and we'll say so honestly from the photos.
Rented homes in Mulhuddart
A good share of the houses and apartments here are rented, and carpets come up at almost every move. Tenants book a clean before handing back the keys; landlords book one before the next tenants arrive.
If you're a tenant, book a day or two ahead of the inspection so the carpet has time to dry and you're not handing over a damp floor. If you're a landlord, the easiest time is when the place is empty, because every corner can be reached. Our end-of-tenancy carpet cleaning guide covers deposits, condition reports and what a clean can and can't fix.
If the previous tenants left furniture or rubbish behind, our clearance team can take it away first. See property clearance.
Moving out, or getting a house ready for new tenants? Send a photo of each room and the stairs on WhatsApp. You'll get a fixed price back, usually the same day.
Duplexes and apartments
Duplexes are common in the newer parts of Dublin 15, and they come with their own quirks: an internal stairs just inside the front door, a narrow landing, and sometimes an entrance shared with the apartment below. We carry the machine in and work from the top floor down.
In apartments, the machine goes up in the lift. Tell us about parking, the fob or door code, and anything the management company asks for. A ground-floor apartment with its own door onto the car park is the simplest of all.
Keeping little feet off a damp carpet
Drying typically takes a few hours, depending on ventilation and the carpet. With children in the house, it helps to plan around it:
- book a morning slot on a school or crèche day, so the rooms are dry by the evening
- do the bedrooms and living room in an order that leaves somewhere to go
- open windows and leave internal doors open
- keep shoes off the carpet for the rest of the day
- put toys back only when the carpet feels dry to the touch
We can set up air movers to speed things along, and our drying guide explains what else helps.

Mulhuddart and the rest of Dublin 15
We cover Mulhuddart, Tyrrelstown, Hollystown, Corduff, Blanchardstown and out towards Clonee on the Meath border. Our Dublin 15 carpet cleaning page covers the whole postcode, and there are separate pages for Ongar and for upholstery cleaning in Clonsilla.
The price depends on the rooms, the stairs and landing, any sofas or mattresses, and the condition of each. Send a photo of each room from the doorway, the stairs from the bottom step and a close-up of any stain you're worried about. Sofas and beds can go on the same visit: see sofa cleaning and mattress cleaning. We're fully insured, and Ciprian, who leads the carpet work, trained with Prochem in 2018. The full service is explained on our Dublin carpet cleaning page.
