Power washing across County Kildare

Kildare gives us two very different kinds of job. In the towns, it's mostly estate driveways, patios and the front of the house. Out in the country, it's long drives, yards, sheds and the concrete around farm buildings, where a job is measured in hours rather than square metres.

We do both. Hot-water pressure washing handles most hard surfaces: block paving, concrete, yard aprons and paths. For render, roofs and painted finishes we switch to a low-pressure soft wash, because force does more harm than good on those.

Town by town

Most Kildare towns grew quickly from the 1990s onwards, so the housing is generally newer than in much of Dublin. That shapes what we find when we arrive.

Farmyards, stable yards and farm buildings

Farm and equestrian work is a big part of what makes Kildare different. Concrete yards build up a layer of muck, algae and diesel that a scraper never shifts, and it gets slippery underfoot for people and animals alike.

Around the yard, we take on:

• Concrete yards, aprons and roadways around the sheds and the house
• The outside of farm buildings: block walls, cladding and roller doors
• Stable yards and the paths between the boxes
• Oil and diesel marks around tanks and where machinery parks, which usually lighten a lot rather than vanish
• The farmhouse drive, paths and patio, often on the same visit

Before we start, we'll talk through where the water will run, so it isn't sent towards a well, a stream or anywhere it shouldn't go. If animals need moving or a shed has to stay shut, tell us and we'll work around it. Disinfecting livestock housing is a specialist job, and we'll say honestly if something is outside what we do.

Long drives and country houses

A country drive can run a long way from the gate to the door, and only part of it may be paved. You don't have to do all of it. You can pick the section near the house, the turning area and the paths, and leave the rest.

Gravel stays as gravel: we don't pressure wash loose stones, but we can clean any paved apron, kerbing or edging around it. Tarmac is common outside the towns too. Older tarmac can be loose at the edges and around patched areas, so we clean it with care rather than blasting it, and we'll tell you if the surface looks tired. Bungalows and dormers in the countryside tend to have big roofs, usually with moss on the north side, and gutters full of leaves where there are trees close by. We can do the roof and the gutters on the same visit as the work at ground level.

Planning a Kildare job

A few details help us quote accurately and plan the day:

• Photos: a wide shot of each area and a close-up of the worst part. For a yard, a photo from each corner works well.
• Water: where the outside tap or yard tap is, and if the supply comes from a well or a group scheme.
• Drains: where the yard or drive drains to, and anything at ground level that needs care, like a septic tank lid or an oil tank.
• Access: gates and codes, low branches, and somewhere the van can turn.
• Animals: dogs in the garden, horses in a yard or cattle in the next field.
