Newer homes, lighter carpets
Much of Stepaside's housing has been built over the last twenty-odd years: estates and apartment developments around the old village and out along the Ballyogan and Enniskerry roads, at the foot of the Dublin Mountains. A lot of those homes came with neutral carpets fitted by the builder, in beige, oatmeal or light grey. They look great on day one, and they show traffic lanes quickly.
If your carpet has never been cleaned, the first clean usually makes the biggest difference. The grey lane down the hall, the darker patch in front of the sofa and the marks at the bottom of the stairs are mostly soil that a vacuum can't reach, and hot-water extraction is good at lifting it.
The job itself is straightforward. Our portable machine comes into the house, spots and lanes are pre-treated, and a hot rinse is pushed into the pile and pulled straight back out. Air movers speed things up, and drying typically takes a few hours, depending on ventilation and carpet type.
Children, pets and the stains that come with them
Family homes collect a particular set of marks. Here's an honest guide to how they usually go:
| Stain | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| Juice, tea, coffee, mud | Comes out, especially if it's recent |
| Food and grease | Comes out with a proper pre-treatment |
| Felt-tip and crayon | Often improves a lot, though some inks leave a faint shadow |
| Fresh pet accidents | Usually cleans up well |
| Old pet urine soaked into the underlay | Can be improved, but the mark or smell may not go completely |
| Bleach spots and burns | Colour loss or damage, not dirt, so cleaning won't fix them |
Tell us what caused a stain if you know. Some marks need a different pre-treatment, and it helps us give you a straight answer from the photos rather than on the doorstep.
Pets bring a few extra jobs. Dog and cat hair works its way deep into the pile, so a thorough vacuum in the days before helps the clean go further. Muddy paw tracks from the back door usually come out well once they're dry. A puppy's training spot on the landing is the one to point out in your photos, because what's happened underneath decides how much we can do.
If you're about to sell or let the house, a clean before the photographs makes the rooms look brighter in the listing, and light carpets show the difference more than most. Our guide to preparing a property for sale covers what else to sort first.

Sofas in open-plan living rooms
Plenty of newer homes have an open-plan kitchen and living area, which puts the sofa right in the line of food, grease and spilled drinks. We clean fabric sofas, armchairs and cushions on the same visit as the carpets, with a hand upholstery tool, after checking the care label and testing the fabric for colour run. The video on this page is from a carpet and upholstery job in Stepaside.
For more on fabrics and what can and can't be cleaned, see upholstery cleaning in Dublin. Beds can be done on the same visit as well: see mattress cleaning.
Saturdays, school runs and drying time
We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm, so a Saturday clean is possible if weekdays don't suit. In a family home a morning booking makes sense, because it gives the carpets the rest of the day to dry before bedtime. Most houses in the estates here have a driveway, which makes unloading easy. For apartments, tell us about visitor parking, lifts and any management company rules.
The price depends on the rooms, the stairs and landing, any sofas or mattresses, and the condition they're in. Photos on WhatsApp are enough for most quotes, and you'll have a fixed price before we book. Ciprian completed Prochem's carpet-cleaning training in 2018 (certificate 2018/020) and works on jobs himself with a small crew.
Stepaside, Kilternan, Sandyford and Carrickmines
We cover all of Dublin 18 and the roads climbing towards the mountains. Kilternan along the Enniskerry Road, Sandyford, Carrickmines and Ballyogan are all covered. If you're in one of the apartment blocks lower down, our page on carpet cleaning in Leopardstown covers apartment access in more detail.
Rugs are cleaned on site too, with a colour test first: see rug cleaning. For the full service across the city, including what to expect on the day, see carpet cleaning in Dublin.
