A big place with every kind of home
Tallaght grew from a village into one of Dublin's largest suburbs from the 1970s on. The result is a wide mix of housing: estates of semis and terraces in Old Bawn, Kilnamanagh, Springfield, Jobstown, Killinarden and Firhouse; apartment blocks around the Square, along the Luas line and towards Belgard and Citywest; and a lot of rented rooms and shared houses close to the TU Dublin campus and the hospital.
That mix means no two carpet jobs here are quite the same. An estate house with three children and a dog needs something different from a one-bed apartment near the Luas, and a shared house between student years needs something different again.
What actually comes out of a carpet
The photo at the top of this page is worth a look. It shows our extractor draining its dirty-water tank into a sink at the end of a job. That water is what a vacuum cleaner leaves behind.
Vacuuming lifts loose dust and crumbs from the surface. What it can't reach is the soil that has worked down to the base of the pile: fine grit, an oily film from shoes and cooking, dried spills, and dust that has bonded to the fibres. That's what makes a carpet look grey and flat even when it's vacuumed every week.
Hot-water extraction gets at it in three steps:
- Pre-treatment. A solution chosen for the fibre and the soil is sprayed onto traffic lanes and marks, and left to loosen things.
- Rinse. Hot water goes down into the pile through the wand.
- Extraction. A powerful vacuum in the same wand pulls the water straight back up, along with the loosened dirt.
Our guide to how professional carpet cleaning works explains each step in more detail.

Family homes in the estates
In a Tallaght semi, the job usually centres on the hall, stairs and landing, the living room and the children's bedrooms. Kids and pets bring their own marks, and most of them lift. The ones that don't are usually burns, bleach and old coloured stains that have set.
Dogs are common in the estates, and the trail from the back door to the couch is usually the most obvious mark in the living room. Paw soiling lifts well once the hair and dried mud are vacuumed out. Old accidents that have soaked into the underlay are harder, and the smell can come back on damp days, so tell us about them when you send photos. Our page on pet carpet cleaning explains what's realistic. Drying typically takes a few hours, so a morning clean while the children are at school usually leaves the rooms usable by teatime.
If you're moving out of a family home, or clearing a parent's house, our Tallaght house clearance page explains how a clear-out works. Carpets are much quicker to clean once the rooms are empty.
Send a photo of each carpet Add close-ups of any stains and tell us about parking. You'll get a fixed price back, usually the same day.
Apartments around the Square and the Luas
The apartments near the Square and along the Luas line are mostly carpeted in the bedrooms only, with hard floors in the living areas. Many are rented. Before booking, find out where a van can stop to unload, whether the lift is working and whether the management company wants notice of contractors.
The extractor goes up in the lift, plugs into a normal socket and drains inside the apartment, so the common areas stay clear. Newer apartments are well sealed, so keep the bedroom doors open and the heating on low afterwards to help the carpet dry.
Bedroom carpets in apartments tend to show a few predictable things: a path from the door to the bed and the wardrobe, spills on the side someone sleeps on, and make-up near a mirror. Most of it lifts with the right pre-treatment. If you're a tenant, a clean before you leave also gives you clear, dated photos for your deposit conversation.
Shared houses near TU Dublin and the hospital
Shared houses close to the TU Dublin campus and Tallaght University Hospital are home to students and to people working shifts. Each bedroom carpet takes its own wear, and the hall and stairs take everyone's. The easiest time to clean is between tenancies, when the rooms are empty, and that's also the moment to do the mattresses; see mattress cleaning.

We cover every part of Dublin 24, from Firhouse and Old Bawn to Jobstown and Citywest. Nearby, see our pages on carpet cleaning in Templeogue and Clondalkin. Sofas and sofa beds can be added to any visit; see upholstery cleaning.
One bedroom in a shared house or a whole family home, the price comes from your photos: the rooms, the stairs, any mattress or sofa bed, and how heavily it's all soiled. It's fixed before we book. Full insurance covers every job, and our carpet cleaning is led by Ciprian, who trained with Prochem in 2018. See the Dublin carpet cleaning page for the rest.
