Newer homes on the Kildare–Meath border
Kilcock is an old canal town on the Royal Canal, right on the Kildare–Meath border, with a train station on the Sligo line and the M4 running past. Around the old town centre, a lot of new estates have been built since the 2000s, mostly family homes for people commuting into Dublin or working in the towns nearby. Many homes on the Meath side, out towards Summerhill and Enfield, look to Kilcock as their local town too.
In these houses, carpet is usually on the stairs, the landing and the bedrooms, and sometimes in the living room, with timber or tiles in the kitchen and hall. A lot of it is the carpet that came with the house: pale, practical synthetics in beige or grey that look great on day one and show every mark by year three.
Dogs, the canal towpath and the hall
Kilcock is a good town for a dog. The towpath along the Royal Canal makes an easy daily walk, and in winter it's muddy. That mud comes home on paws and boots, and the carpet nearest the back or front door takes it. Hair, paw trails and the patch where the dog sleeps are the usual marks in a dog-owning home, and most of them respond well to cleaning.
Here's how the common pet issues tend to go:
- Paw trails and mud: lift well once dried and vacuumed, then pre-treated
- Hair in the pile: vacuumed out thoroughly before the wet clean
- A fresh accident: usually removed completely if it's dealt with quickly
- An old accident in the underlay: improves, but the smell can come back in damp weather
That last one deserves honesty. When urine soaks through to the underlay, the source is below the carpet, and a clean from above can't always reach it. Tell us about any problem spots when you send photos and we'll be straight about what to expect. Our pet carpet cleaning page goes into more detail.
The puppy year
A new house and a new puppy often arrive together, and the first months of house-training are hard on carpet. Act on accidents quickly: blot, don't scrub, and use cold water rather than hot, because heat can set the stain. Skip ammonia-based products, since the smell can draw a dog back to the same spot. If one patch keeps getting used, block access to that room for a few weeks.
Once house-training is done, a full clean resets the carpet. Booking it after, rather than during, means you're not paying to clean marks that will be replaced next week.

Pale carpet, young family
Light beige and grey carpets are standard in newer estates, and they show everything: juice, mud, crayon and the grey lane up the middle of the stairs. The good news is that most synthetic carpets in these houses take hot-water cleaning well and dry fairly quickly.
The stairs in a family home gets the hardest use. We clean it one step at a time with a hand tool, then the landing, then the hall. Our stair carpet cleaning page explains more. On a pale carpet, coloured drinks are the marks to watch. Fresh spills usually lift, but older ones may leave a faint shadow.
Send the stairs, the bedrooms and any pet spots A photo of each carpet and close-ups of problem areas is enough for a fixed price, usually the same day.
Moving in, moving on
If you're moving into a house in Kilcock, the best time to clean the carpets is before your furniture arrives, when the rooms are empty and every corner is reachable. See our guide to cleaning carpets before you move in for timing with painters and the removal van.
If you've bought a brand-new house, the carpet doesn't need cleaning yet. New carpet often sheds loose fibres for the first few months, which shows up as fluff in the vacuum; that's normal and settles down. Save the first clean for when the hall and stairs start to look grey. If you're moving out or clearing a family home, our Kilcock house clearance page explains how a clear-out works, and the carpets can be cleaned once the rooms are clear.
Kilcock and nearby
We come out from Dublin along the M4, past Maynooth, so Kilcock is a straightforward trip. Estate houses usually have a driveway, which keeps the van close. We also cover Rathcoffey, Enfield and Summerhill. Nearby, see carpet cleaning in Maynooth, and for the rest of the county, carpet cleaning in Kildare.
Quotes come from photos, and the figure depends on the number of rooms, the stairs and landing, how much treatment the pet spots need, and any sofa or mattress you add. It doesn't move once agreed. We carry full insurance, and Ciprian, who leads our carpet work, is fully trained in carpet cleaning through Prochem. For the method in detail, see carpet cleaning in Dublin.
