How we get to Mullingar
We're based in Dublin, and Mullingar is a run out the M4 and up the N4. It's the county town of Westmeath and one of several midlands towns we visit on planned trips, often on the same day as jobs in Athlone, Longford or Tullamore. We don't keep a van in the midlands, so visits are booked ahead rather than at short notice.
You start by sending photos of each carpeted room, the stairs and any marks, with your Eircode. We reply with a fixed price and the dates we'll be in Westmeath, usually the same day. You pick a date, and that's when we come. If you're flexible, it's easier to find you an earlier slot.
Lakeside houses near Lough Owel and Lough Ennell
Mullingar is ringed by lakes, and the houses around them are a different kind of job from the estates in town. Some are lived in all year; others are second homes used mainly in summer. Both share a few things that matter for carpets.
Damp air. A house beside a lake sits in moist air, and if it's empty for weeks, carpets and soft furnishings can pick up a stale smell. A clean freshens the carpet, but a house that stays cold and closed will smell musty again. Heating and airing matter as much as cleaning.
Dogs and lake walks. A dog that's been in the water or across a wet field brings it all home: mud, weed and that wet-dog smell. Most of it sits on the surface of the pile and comes out with a pre-spray and a hot rinse. Accidents that have soaked through to the underlay are a different matter.
Rugs over timber. Lake houses often have timber or stone floors with big rugs. Rugs are cleaned on site, and they need to be fully dry before they go back on a wooden floor, because damp trapped underneath can mark the timber. Plan on the rug being off the floor for the rest of the day.
Sunrooms and conservatories. A carpet in a bright room facing the water fades over the years. Cleaning brightens it, but faded colour doesn't come back.
Estates and town houses along the canal
The Royal Canal runs through Mullingar, and the older streets of the town have terraces and town houses with narrow halls and steep stairs. Around the edges of town there are estates of semis and newer homes, mostly family houses with carpet upstairs.
These are straightforward jobs. Stairs are cleaned by hand, tread by tread, and finished last so nobody walks on clean carpet to get out. Bedrooms get a pre-treatment on the lanes and marks before the rinse. In a warm house, synthetic carpet is usually dry within a few hours.
Town-centre parking can be tight, so tell us whether there's a driveway, a space out the back or only on-street parking nearby. The extractor is carried in and runs inside the house, so we don't need to park right at the door. In the estates, a driveway space for the morning is all we need.
Taking photos for a quote
Because Mullingar visits are planned from Dublin, the photos do the job a home visit would do elsewhere. Good ones mean an accurate price and no surprises for either of us:
- Each room from the doorway, in daylight if you can, showing as much of the floor as possible.
- The stairs from the bottom step, and the landing from the top.
- Close-ups of stains, with a word on what caused them and roughly how old they are.
- The back of an offcut or the fitter's label, if you have one, so we know the fibre.
- Rugs, sofas and mattresses you'd like added, plus any care labels.
Send them on WhatsApp with your Eircode. If something isn't clear, we'll ask before we quote rather than guess.

Rugs, armchairs and the rest of the room
Since we've made the trip, it's worth adding anything else that needs a clean. We do:
- Rugs, wool or synthetic, after a colour-run test; see rug cleaning
- Sofas and armchairs, once we've checked the care label; see upholstery cleaning
- Mattresses, in guest rooms, children's rooms and holiday houses
Everything goes into one price. Include photos of each piece with your carpet photos, and mention any stains and what caused them.

Castlepollard, Multyfarnham, Kinnegad and around
We cover Mullingar and the area around it, including Castlepollard, Multyfarnham, Kinnegad, Rochfortbridge and Ballynacargy, and the houses around the lakes. Further west, see carpet cleaning in Athlone; north-west, carpet cleaning in Longford.
A house that's still furnished can be emptied first through house clearance in Mullingar. All our work is fully insured, and Ciprian's carpet training was a Prochem course in 2018. Beyond Westmeath, see how we cover the rest of Leinster.
