Both banks of the Boyne
Drogheda is split by the river. The north side is in Louth and holds the old town centre, with its steep streets climbing up from the quays. South of the river, a large part of the town is in County Meath, with estates spreading out towards Donore and the coast road to Bettystown. For carpet cleaning, none of that matters: it's all Drogheda, and we cover every part of it.
What does matter is the kind of house. Broadly, there are three:
- Older terraces near the centre and on the streets running off it, with narrow halls and steep stairs
- Estates of semis and townhouses on every side of the town, most of them family homes
- Rented houses and apartments, both in the centre and in the estates, cleaned between tenants

Terraced houses and steep streets
In a terrace that opens straight onto the footpath, the hall carpet takes the full force of the street. Grit, rain, wet leaves and chewing gum come in on every pair of shoes, and because the hall is narrow, they're all ground into the same strip. The photo at the top of this page shows the result: a hall bright and clean beyond the line, and the stretch nearest the door still dark.
That strip needs more than a quick pass. It gets a thorough dry vacuum first, then a pre-spray suited to the fibre, agitation to loosen the packed-in soil, and a slow hot rinse with extraction. Gum is treated separately before the rinse.
The stairs in these houses are often steep, with tight turns and very little room at the top. They're cleaned by hand, a tread at a time, with a small tool on the risers and nosings. Older houses sometimes have a wool runner held with stair rods, which is cleaned in place with careful moisture control; our page on wool carpet cleaning explains why wool needs that care.
Parking near the centre is usually on the street, and sometimes a short walk away. That's fine. The extractor is portable and runs inside the house, plugged into a socket, with its waste water emptied into your sink at the end.
The estates: stairs, landings and living rooms
Around the edges of Drogheda, north and south of the river, the estates are mostly semis and townhouses with carpeted stairs, landings and bedrooms, and often a carpeted living room. With children, pets and a busy household, the wear tends to show in the same places:
| Area | What we usually see | What a clean does |
|---|---|---|
| Stairs | Grey, flattened nosings | Lifts the grime and brightens the colour; can't rebuild worn pile |
| Landing | Grit spread from the stairs | Removes the grit that's wearing the fibres |
| Bedrooms | A lane from door to bed | Usually lifts most of it with pre-treatment |
| Living room | Drinks, food, pet traffic | Most spills come out; old dye stains may only fade |

For how we tackle treads, risers and the front edges, see stair carpet cleaning.
Getting a house ready to sell or let
A lot of Drogheda bookings come just before a house goes on the market or a new tenant moves in. Order matters here. Clear out whatever isn't staying, get the painting and repairs done, and book the carpets last, a day or two before the estate agent's photographer or the new tenant arrives. Clean carpet in an empty room photographs well and smells fresh at a viewing.
If the house still has furniture and belongings from a previous owner or tenant, our Drogheda house clearance service can empty it first, and we'll clean the carpets once the rooms are clear. Empty rooms are quicker to clean and give the carpet room to dry.

How Drogheda visits are arranged
We're based in Dublin and come up the M1. Drogheda visits are planned in advance and often paired with jobs in Balbriggan, Laytown or Bettystown on the same day. Your quote arrives with a choice of dates; we don't promise next-morning visits, but being flexible often means an earlier one.
A hall or bedroom carpet is normally dry a few hours after we finish. Air movers run while we pack up, and on a damp day the heating on and the doors between rooms left open make the biggest difference. We carry full insurance on every job, and Ciprian, who does the carpet work with a small crew, took Prochem's training in 2018.
Termonfeckin, Baltray, Laytown and Bettystown
We cover all of Drogheda and the area around it: Tullyallen, Termonfeckin and Baltray on the Louth side, and Donore, Mornington, Bettystown and Laytown in Meath. Further north, see carpet cleaning in Dundalk; down the M1, carpet cleaning in Balbriggan. Our Leinster carpet cleaning page lists every other county we reach from Dublin.
Outside, we also power wash driveways and patios in Drogheda, as a separate job with its own price.
