Carpet cleaning in Carlow town and county
Carlow town has a bit of everything: estates on all sides of the town, older terraces and town houses near the centre, Graiguecullen across the Barrow, and apartments and student houses near SETU's Carlow campus. Out in the county there are market towns, villages and plenty of farmhouses and one-off rural homes. Spotless cleans carpets in every one of them.
The two videos on this page are from our carpet jobs in Carlow. The method is the same as anywhere else: the extraction machine is carried in, marks and walkways are pre-treated, and hot water is flushed through the pile and vacuumed back up, taking the soil with it. If you'd like it dry sooner, we can leave air movers running. A few hours is normal, though a well-aired room dries quicker and a thick carpet takes longer.
Why we test before we clean
The photo at the top of this page shows a test patch: one small area cleaned so you can see the difference before the rest is done. Testing matters for a few reasons:
- Colour. Some wool carpets, older dyes and many rugs can bleed. A damp white cloth pressed on a hidden spot shows straight away if colour moves.
- Fibre. Wool, nylon, polypropylene and viscose all react differently to heat and moisture, and the pre-treatment has to suit the fibre.
- Expectations. A test patch on a stained or worn area shows you what the finished carpet will look like, so there are no surprises.
If a test tells us a carpet or rug shouldn't be wet-cleaned, we'll stop and tell you why. Better that than a ruined carpet.
Older carpets need particular care. Many were made with a jute backing, which can turn brown and show through the pile if it gets too wet, and wool fibres hold water longer than synthetics. On carpets like that, moisture is kept low, the extraction passes are slower, and air movers do more of the work.

Student houses, landlords and lettings
With SETU in the town, Carlow has a lot of student houses and shared lets, and the carpets usually need doing when one group moves out and the next moves in. Ideally we come in once the last tenant has gone, when the rooms are clear, the work goes quicker and nobody needs to walk on the carpet while it dries.
For landlords, a quick message with photos of each room once the tenants leave is enough for a fixed price. Students moving out should book two or so days ahead of the landlord's inspection, so the carpet has time to dry. From the photos we'll say plainly what should lift and what won't, like cigarette burns, bleach marks or old urine that has reached the underlay. Mattresses in a let can be cleaned on the same visit; see mattress cleaning.
Don't forget the sitting-room sofa in a shared house. It has usually seen years of use by several groups of tenants, and it's often the thing the next group notices first. A fabric sofa can be cleaned on the same visit as the carpets, once we've read its care label and checked the dye won't run.
Across County Carlow
We cover Tullow, Bagenalstown, Borris, Leighlinbridge, Hacketstown, Rathvilly and the countryside around them, and over the border into Kilkenny and Laois. Rural homes often have bigger rooms and long halls, and sometimes an older wool carpet that's worth cleaning rather than replacing. An Eircode or a few directions saves us knocking on the wrong farmhouse door.

Carpets, stairs, sofas and mattresses
- Fitted carpets in living rooms, bedrooms and halls
- Stairs and landings, cleaned tread by tread
- Sofas and armchairs, after a care-label check and colour test, see upholstery cleaning
- Mattresses, with a hand tool
- Rugs, cleaned on site, see rug cleaning
Each quote is built from the number of rooms, the stairs, any extra items and how soiled they are, and it's fixed before we book. As for who does the work: Ciprian, who still picks up the wand on Carlow jobs himself, did his Prochem carpet-cleaning course back in 2018 (certificate no. 2018/020), so your carpets are in fully trained hands. For how we clean carpets in general, see our main carpet cleaning page.
