Dublin 6 or Dublin 6W?
The postcode causes some confusion, so first things first. Dublin 6 covers Rathmines, Ranelagh, Rathgar, Milltown and the streets around them. Terenure, Harold's Cross and Kimmage are mostly Dublin 6W, a separate postcode just to the west. We cover both, and the price doesn't depend on which side of the line you're on.
Portobello is the other one. It sits on the Grand Canal between Rathmines and the city, and most of it is officially Dublin 8, but plenty of people think of it as part of Rathmines. It has its own page either way.
Area by area
Rathmines and Portobello
Rathmines is full of flats: Victorian red-bricks divided into flats and bedsits, purpose-built apartment blocks, and family houses on the quieter roads. Portobello, along the canal, has small terraces and flats with steep stairs and almost no parking outside. Both mean stairs, rentals and tenants changing over. See carpet cleaning in Rathmines and carpet cleaning in Portobello for the local detail.
Ranelagh and Milltown
Ranelagh has period houses with wool carpets and runners on the stairs, plus apartments near the Luas. Milltown, along the Dodder, has a mix of older houses, family homes and apartment developments. Our Ranelagh page covers runners, wool and rugs on floorboards. If a Milltown house needs clearing before a sale or a let, see house clearance in Milltown.
Rathgar
Rathgar is quieter and more residential: big red-brick houses, many still family homes and some divided into flats. Expect wool carpets, long stairs and older upholstery. For sofas and armchairs, see sofa cleaning in Rathgar. Just over the 6W line, carpet cleaning in Terenure covers the red-brick and 1930s homes there.
Dublin 6W next door
Harold's Cross runs south from the canal, with red-brick terraces, cottages and newer apartments. Terenure and Kimmage have more 1930s family houses with a hall, stairs and three bedrooms. The carpet work is much the same as in Dublin 6: stairs by hand, wool treated gently, and parking planned in advance.

Basement and garden flats
Many of Dublin 6's big houses have a garden-level or basement flat, reached by steps down from the footpath. These are usually simple to clean, because the machine goes down the steps with us. They can be cooler and slower to dry, especially in winter, so plan to leave the heating on and a window open for the afternoon.
If there are signs of damp, like a musty smell or dark marks along the bottom of the walls, a carpet clean will freshen the carpet but won't fix the damp. We'll mention it if we notice.
What Dublin 6 homes have in common
- Stairs. Period houses and houses of flats mean a lot of steps, each one cleaned by hand from the top down.
- Wool and synthetic side by side. Wool in the older family homes, synthetic in flats and apartments. We check each and adjust the solution and the moisture.
- Rentals. Tenants moving out and landlords getting flats ready. Several flats in one house can be done on the same day, each quoted separately.
- Shared halls. In a house of flats, the hall and stairs usually belong to the landlord, who can book them with the flats or on their own.
- Parking. Mostly permit or pay-and-display, so tell us what's outside.
Anywhere in Dublin 6 or 6W Send photos of each carpet and the stairs, with your area or Eircode, and we'll come back with a fixed price, usually the same day.
Stains, pets and drying
Fresh food, drink and mud usually lift well. Old wine stains and pet accidents that have soaked into the underlay may fade without disappearing, and an old urine patch can leave an odour on damp days. Bleach, burns and sun fading won't change. A close-up photo of any stain, and what caused it if you know, lets us tell you what to expect before you book.
Drying is typically a few hours, longer for wool and in cold rooms. Air movers start it off; after we leave, the heating on and a window open keep it going. Keep pets and outdoor shoes off until the carpet is dry right into the pile.
Getting a price anywhere in Dublin 6
The price is based on the rooms, stairs and landings, any rugs, sofas or mattresses, and the condition of each. A photo of each is enough for a fixed figure before anything is booked, and we'll quote landlords per flat. Send them on WhatsApp or through the contact page, with a note about parking and which floor you're on. For a house of flats, label each photo with the flat number so the quote is easy to follow.
