Estates on one side, apartment blocks on the other
Santry is two kinds of place side by side. Around the old village and towards Whitehall and Beaumont, there are established estates of semi-detached houses, many lived in by the same families for years. Then, from the 2000s on, a lot of apartments went up, around Northwood and along the Swords Road and Santry Avenue, close to Omni Park and the M50.
The houses need what family homes usually need: the hall, stairs and landing, the living room and the bedrooms. The apartments are mostly about bedroom carpets, and sometimes a hall. Being close to the airport and the M1, many of them are rented, and tenants and landlords come and go more often than in the estates.
In the estate houses, access is simple. There's usually a driveway or a space on the road, the machine comes in through the front door, and the stairs, landing and bedrooms are cleaned in one visit. A sofa or a mattress can be added while we're set up. The rest of this page is mostly about apartments, because that's where the questions usually are.
Working with your management company
Almost every apartment block in Santry has a management company, and each has its own rules. None of them get in the way of a carpet clean, but it saves time on the day if we know about them in advance:
- Contractor notice. Some buildings want to know who's coming and when.
- Parking. Underground car parks often have height barriers or no visitor spaces.
- The lift. It may need protecting or booking for longer visits.
- Hours. A few blocks restrict noisy work to set times of day.
- Insurance. If the building asks for contractor insurance details, tell us before the day. We're fully insured on every job.
The machine itself causes no trouble in a shared building. It's a portable extractor on wheels that goes up in the lift, runs off an ordinary socket in your apartment and empties its dirty water down a sink or toilet inside. Nothing is left in the corridors.
Communal stairs and corridors
If you're on the board of an owners' management company, or you manage a block, the communal carpets are probably the hardest-working in the building. Everyone walks the same stairs and corridors, often in outdoor shoes, and the carpet by the main door and the lift goes dark fastest.
We clean communal areas in sections, so there's always a route through for residents. Stairs are done flight by flight with a hand tool, as described on our stair carpet cleaning page, corridors with the main wand, and we put air movers on the sections that need to dry fastest. Fire doors stay closed as they should be. For larger buildings and regular contracts, see our page on commercial carpet cleaning.

Renting near the airport
Many tenants in Santry work at the airport or commute up the M1, and turnarounds between tenancies can be quick. If you're moving out, book a day or two before the final inspection. If you're the landlord, the empty gap between tenants is the ideal time. Our end-of-tenancy carpet cleaning guide covers what landlords can reasonably expect and what's fair wear and tear.
Short notice is common with rentals here. Quotes usually come back the same day, but bookings depend on the diary, so send photos as soon as you know your dates rather than the day before the handover.
When a flat or house has been left with furniture or rubbish in it, clear it before the clean. Our house clearance service in Santry can do that, and carpets in empty rooms are cleaned faster and more thoroughly.
Apartment, house or a whole stairwell? Send photos and tell us about the parking and the lift. We'll come back with a fixed price, usually the same day.
Inside a newer apartment
Carpets in newer apartments are usually short-pile synthetics in light greys and beiges. They take hot-water cleaning well, but light colours show everything. The usual marks are make-up and fake tan by the mirror, drinks beside the bed, and a worn grey patch under a desk chair, now that so many people work from home. Our page on carpet stain removal explains which of those usually come out.
These apartments are also very well sealed, and many have mechanical ventilation instead of windows that open wide. Drying typically takes a few hours, depending on airflow. Keep the ventilation running and the internal doors open, and the carpet will dry evenly. Sofas and armchairs can be cleaned on the same visit; see upholstery cleaning.

Santry and the surrounding areas
We cover Santry, Northwood, Whitehall, Beaumont, Ballymun and Coolock. Further north, see our page on carpet cleaning in Swords, and towards the city, carpet cleaning in Drumcondra. Apartments, houses and communal areas are each priced on what needs cleaning and how soiled it is, with a fixed figure agreed in advance. For a block, tell us how many floors there are and we'll price the stairwell and corridors as one job. Our whole approach is laid out on the Dublin carpet cleaning page.
