Three kinds of home, three kinds of carpet
Swords grew outwards in stages. The older estates west of the Main Street, such as Rivervalley and Brackenstown, date from the 1970s and 80s. The large developments towards Boroimhe, Holywell and Drynam followed around the turn of the century, and the newest homes are the apartment blocks near the Pavilions and Airside. Each stage left a different kind of carpet behind.
| Home | Usually fitted | What a clean usually tackles |
|---|---|---|
| 1970s–80s semi | Replaced over the years, often a wool mix on the stairs | Grey nosings and a dark lane through the hall |
| 2000s estate house | Pale synthetic, sometimes original to the build | Traffic marks from the front door to the kitchen |
| Apartment | Short-pile synthetic in the bedrooms only | Spills beside the bed, marks by the wardrobe |
That's a pattern, not a rule. A photo of each room tells us far more than the name of the estate, but it explains why two houses a few roads apart can need quite different work.
Apartments near the Pavilions and Airside
In most Swords apartments the carpet is limited to the bedrooms and sometimes the hall, and a lot of these units are rented. The blocks usually have a management company, a fob or keypad at the main door and a car park that isn't always open to visitors. Before booking, find out three things: where a van can stop for half an hour to unload, whether there's a lift, and whether the building wants notice of contractors coming in.
The extractor is a portable unit on wheels. It goes up in the lift, plugs into an ordinary socket and empties its dirty water down a toilet or sink in the apartment when we've finished. Nothing runs down the stairwell and nothing is left in the common areas.
Newer apartments are well sealed, and some have vents rather than windows that open wide, so drying can run a little longer than in a house. Leave the heating on low and the bedroom doors open afterwards.
The family semi: bedrooms, playroom, stairs
In a house with children, the stairs and landing take the most traffic and the kids' bedrooms come a close second. Juice beside the bed, Play-Doh trodden flat, marker by the desk. Most of it lifts with a pre-spray that suits the mark and a hot rinse. Strong dyes such as felt-tip and coloured drinks may fade without going completely, and a close-up photo is usually enough for us to tell you which is which.
The stairs get a hand tool on every tread and riser, the landing gets the main wand, and we finish in the hall so nobody has to cross damp carpet to leave. Our stair carpet cleaning page goes into the detail. If the dog sleeps on the landing, read our page on carpet cleaning in homes with pets for what to expect from hair, paw marks and older accidents.

Photos of the stairs and each bedroom are enough Send them on WhatsApp with a close-up of anything stubborn, and we'll reply with a fixed price, usually the same day.
Renting in Swords
A good share of homes here are rented, some to people working at the airport and others to commuters on the M1. If you're a tenant moving out, read what your lease says about carpets, then book us a day or two before the final inspection so the rooms have time to dry. If you're the landlord, the gap between tenants is the easiest time, because empty rooms are quicker to clean. Our end-of-tenancy carpet cleaning guide covers deposits and what a landlord can reasonably expect.
When the last tenants have left furniture or bags behind, get that cleared first. Our house clearance service in Swords can empty the rooms, and the carpets are then cleaned with nothing in the way.
Sofas and mattresses while we're there
Once the machine is set up, adding a fabric sofa or a child's mattress takes little extra time. Sofas get a care-label check and a colour test before the upholstery tool goes near them; see upholstery cleaning. Mattresses are cleaned with a hand tool and left to air; see mattress cleaning.

Swords and the surrounding area
We cover every part of Swords, along with Kinsealy, Knocksedan, Donabate and the roads out towards the airport. Estate houses usually have a driveway, which keeps the van close to the door. For homes on the coast, see our page on carpet cleaning in Malahide, and for the outside of the house there's power washing in Swords.
For a fixed figure we need to see the rooms, the stairs and landing and any sofa or mattress you'd like added, and we price on how much there is and how marked it is. That figure doesn't change on the day. We're fully insured, and our Dublin carpet cleaning page explains the method from pre-spray to drying, which typically takes a few hours, depending on airflow.
