Red-brick and period houses
Clontarf's older houses, the Victorian and Edwardian red-bricks and larger period homes on the roads back from the seafront, have the kind of rooms carpet cleaners like: generous, high-ceilinged and often carpeted in good wool. Halls are wide, stairs are long, and the front room may have a carpet that has been down for twenty years and still has plenty of life in it.
Wool needs a gentler approach than synthetic carpet. We use a solution that suits the fibre, keep the water controlled and the extraction thorough, and test a hidden spot before starting. Big rooms with high ceilings dry well once the air is moving, especially with a window open and the heating on.
Patterned hall carpets hide their dirt
A busy patterned carpet, the kind found in many Clontarf halls, is designed not to show dirt. That's great for daily life, and it also means the carpet can be holding far more soil than it looks. The first pass of the extraction wand often leaves a line so sharp that people are surprised.
The photo at the top of this page is a good example: the soiled section looks acceptable until the cleaned section sits beside it. That's why we suggest cleaning hall and stairs carpets once a year even if they look fine. The grit in them is wearing the pile down whether you can see it or not.
The same goes for the stairs. Each tread is cleaned with the hand tool, nosing first, because that front edge carries the most grit and wears out long before the rest of the step.
Runners and fitted carpet together
Many period houses here have a runner on the stairs and fitted carpet on the landing and in the hall. They can all be done on the same visit. The runner gets the hand tool, tread by tread, and the fitted carpet the main wand. If the runner and the landing are different fibres, say a wool runner and a synthetic landing, we change the cleaning solution for each.
A rug in front of the fire or in the hall can join the list. It gets its own colour test before any water touches it, because some traditional dyes bleed, and the fringe is treated separately. Silk and viscose rugs are a different matter, and we may recommend a specialist wash instead. Our rug cleaning page explains the difference.

Seafront apartments
Along the Clontarf Road there are apartment blocks looking out over the bay, plus newer developments back towards Fairview and Marino. Inside, it's usually synthetic carpet in the bedrooms and sometimes the hall. Tell us about the car park, the lift and any management company rules. Our extractor is portable; it takes water from a tap in the apartment and goes back down the sink when we finish, so nothing is left in the common areas.
The Clontarf Road is busy, and parking right outside a seafront block is often limited, so mention any visitor spaces when you book. Many of these apartments are rented, and a carpet clean is a common last job before a tenant hands back the keys.
Send the hall, the stairs and the front room Photos of each carpet are enough for a fixed price, usually the same day. Mention the parking and how many floors.
Stains, pets and honest answers
In a family house, the marks tend to be the same ones: tea and coffee beside the armchair, a wine spill from a dinner party, muddy paws after a walk on Dollymount Strand. Most of those lift well. Older dye-type stains on nylon can lighten without disappearing, and pet urine that has gone through to the underlay may leave an odour on damp days. Bleach spots, burns from the fire and sun fading by a bay window won't change at all.
A close-up photo of each mark, and what caused it if you know, lets us tell you what to expect before you book.
After a family home is cleared
Some of our Clontarf work follows a house clearance: a family home emptied after a bereavement or a move into care, before a sale. Once the rooms are empty, the carpets can be cleaned in a single visit, and if they're in good condition they help the house show well. Our house clearance page for Clontarf explains how a clearance is handled, with time to sort and keep what matters first.
Clontarf, Marino, Fairview and Raheny
We cover all of Dublin 3 and its neighbours: Marino, Fairview, Killester, Dollymount, Raheny and Artane. Most of the period roads have on-street parking, so a free driveway or a space outside the door makes the morning easier. Up the coast, see our page on carpet cleaning in Malahide, and inland, Drumcondra. Rugs, sofas and mattresses can be added: see rug cleaning, upholstery cleaning and mattress cleaning.
Our founder Ciprian is Prochem-trained (2018), and every job is covered by our insurance. The full service is on our Dublin carpet cleaning page.
