A university town's calendar
Maynooth runs on the university year. Students arrive in late summer, the town is full through the autumn and spring, and from late May the student houses start emptying again. If you let property here, that rhythm decides when a carpet clean is easy and when it's awkward.
| When | Who usually books | What tends to get cleaned |
|---|---|---|
| Late May to June | Landlords of student houses | Every bedroom, the hall, stairs, sofa and mattresses |
| July and August | Hosts with rooms in digs | The student's room and mattress before the next one |
| Christmas break | Tenants staying the year | The hall, stairs and the worst room |
| Any time | Families in the estates | Stairs, living room, bedrooms |
It's not a strict calendar, but planning around it saves trouble. A clean between academic years means the house is empty, the rooms are quicker to do, and there's no rush for the carpets to dry.
Student houses between lets
Student houses in the estates around Maynooth work hard. Five or six people sharing, each with their own room, and everyone sharing the hall, stairs and living room. By the end of the year, the carpets usually have a full set of marks: drinks, food, make-up, mud and the odd candle-wax spill.
Most of that lifts with pre-treatment and a hot rinse. Some marks can't be cleaned out, though: burns from irons and hair straighteners, bleach spots and anything that has taken the colour out of the fibre. We'll tell you honestly from your photos which is which, so there are no surprises. Our page on carpet stain removal explains why some stains behave like dyes.
If the students left furniture, mattresses or bags behind, clear the house before the clean. Our Maynooth house clearance page explains how that works. Mattresses that are staying can be cleaned on the same visit; see mattress cleaning.

Rooms in digs
Plenty of Maynooth families let a room to a student during term, often called digs. It's a smaller job: one bedroom carpet, perhaps the mattress, and sometimes the stairs and landing that the student uses too. A clean over the summer, or between one student and the next, keeps the room fresh and gives the next person a good first impression.
You don't need to clear the room completely. Lift anything stored on the floor and under the bed, and we'll work around the wardrobe and desk.
If the student is still living with you, agree a day with them in advance, ask them to clear their floor and put away anything valuable, and book for a morning when they're on campus. The room will usually be dry enough to use by the time they're back in the evening. A desk chair on castors is the usual cause of a worn grey patch in a student's room, and a chair mat afterwards stops it coming back.
Turning a student house round for the summer? Send a photo of each room, the stairs and any sofas or mattresses. You'll get one fixed price for the house, usually the same day.
Family estates around the town
Away from the student houses, most of Maynooth is family housing: estates along the Moyglare, Dunboyne and Straffan roads, many built in the last few decades, with families commuting into Dublin or working locally. These homes need what family homes everywhere need: the hall, stairs and landing, the living room, the bedrooms, and often a sofa and a dog's favourite spot.
The carpets are usually synthetic, which takes hot-water cleaning well and dries fairly quickly. Drying typically takes a few hours, depending on airflow, so a morning clean usually means the rooms are back in use by evening.
With young children, the living room and the stairs usually need the most attention, and the marks are the familiar ones: juice, yoghurt, crayon and muddy shoes. Most of them lift with a pre-treatment and a hot rinse. Strongly coloured drinks and felt-tip can leave a faint shadow, and it helps if you can tell us what caused a mark and roughly when.
Older houses near the campus
Around the Main Street and close to the older South Campus, there are period houses and older town houses with taller rooms and, often, wool carpets. Wool needs a gentler solution and controlled moisture, so we test first and allow a little longer for drying. Big, cool rooms dry best with the heating on and a window open on a dry day.

Maynooth and the towns around it
We cover all of Maynooth and the surrounding area, including Straffan and the countryside towards Rathcoffey. Nearby, see carpet cleaning in Kilcock and Leixlip, and for the rest of the county, carpet cleaning in Kildare.
Student houses, rooms in digs and family homes are all priced the same way: on the carpets, stairs, mattresses and sofas involved, and on how much the year has taken out of them. The figure is fixed before booking, and every job is covered by full insurance. Our Dublin carpet cleaning page explains how we clean, step by step.
