House clearance in Kilkenny city and county
Kilkenny is one of the further-out counties in our Leinster area, and we treat that as a reason to plan well, not a reason to cut corners. Across the city and county we handle complete homes and individual rooms, lofts, garages, sheds and old farm buildings, as well as rentals and offices. Every job is quoted from your photos, and the number we give you is settled before a date goes in the diary.
The day itself runs exactly as it would in Dublin. Drawers, boxes and coat pockets are looked through before anything goes out, you can take your time over what to keep, the stairs get protective covers, and each room is swept once it's empty.
Kilkenny city: slips, terraces and estates
Kilkenny's medieval centre is part of what makes the city, and it's also what makes some clearances here a bit more involved. Between the castle, the cathedral and the river, there are narrow streets and the old lanes known as slips, where a van can't always stop at the door.
Further out, the city changes:
| Where | What it usually means for the clearance |
|---|---|
| The medieval centre and older streets | Narrow lanes, steep stairs and a longer carry to the van. More hands, more time. |
| Terraced and semi-d streets close to town | Street parking and smaller rooms packed with years of contents. |
| Estates around the ring road | Driveway loading, with most of the volume in the attic and garage. See our attic and garage clearance pages. |
| Apartments and flats over shops | Stairs, lifts and building rules. See apartment clearance, or flat clearance for a flat above a shop on one of the old streets. |
Around the county: Thomastown, Callan and Castlecomer
County Kilkenny is mostly farmland and market towns, each with its own character. Thomastown sits on the Nore to the south-east, Callan is out to the south-west, and Castlecomer is up in the north, on the old coal-mining plateau near the Laois border. Graiguenamanagh, on the Barrow, faces County Carlow across the river.
In and around these towns, you'll find older terraced houses on the main streets, estates on the edges, and bungalows, farmhouses and one-off homes in the countryside. Rural clearances tend to involve more buildings: a garage, a shed, an outhouse or an old dairy full of things nobody has needed in years. Photograph each one, and the lane and gate, so we know what size van to bring. Drums of diesel or oil, agricultural sprays and old roof sheeting that might be asbestos all have their own rules, so photograph those separately and we'll give you a straight answer on whether they're something we can move. For outbuildings on their own, see shed clearance.
Office clearance in Kilkenny
We clear offices, shops and small business premises in Kilkenny too. Typical loads are workstations and swivel chairs, cabinets full of old files, metal shelving, partitions that are already taken down, the canteen fridge and microwave, and old IT. The job is planned around your business. It might be a whole office at the end of a lease, or a few rooms ahead of a refit.
To get a price, photograph each room and the route out (stairs, lift, loading access), and tell us about any building rules. Make sure data on old computers has been wiped or removed before we arrive. Our office clearance page explains the full process.

How we plan a Kilkenny clearance
Because it's a longer trip from Dublin, a Kilkenny job is planned in more detail before the day:
- You send photos of every room, the attic, the outbuildings and anything heavy, with your Eircode.
- We price it and tell you how many days to allow and how big a crew we'll bring.
- We agree the date and access: keys, alarm codes, parking, and who will be there.
- On the day, we work through room by room, checking as we go and setting aside anything personal.
- When it's done, rooms are swept and you get photos if you're not there to see it.
After a death, we take more time, not less. A clearance can be split over two or three visits when relatives need longer with the house, and everything personal is handed back to you. See bereavement house clearance. Where a home has slowly filled up over many years, our hoarder clearance work is patient and non-judgemental.
Want a price for a Kilkenny clearance? Send photos of each room, the attic and any outbuildings on WhatsApp, with your Eircode. You'll get a fixed price back, usually the same day.
Pricing and where everything goes
A Kilkenny price comes down to the load: the number of van trips, the distance and stairs between the rooms and the van, any fridges, freezers, mattresses or electricals that go to their own recycling streams, and the hours on site. The figure we quote is the figure on the invoice. Our house clearance cost guide explains each factor.
Things are sorted at the van as they come out. Pieces with life left in them are kept back for reuse where we can, scrap metal, appliances and electricals are recycled, and the remainder ends up at licensed facilities. Spotless is an authorised waste carrier (permit NWCPO-25-13287-01), so you know where your things end up.
