Laois at a glance
Laois sits in the heart of Leinster, straight down the M7 from Dublin, and it's part of our service area, which runs across Dublin and all of Leinster. We're a Dublin-based crew, so every Laois job is quoted from your photos and booked for a date that gives us time to finish properly. Bigger clearances, such as a farmhouse with a yard, are scheduled with the full day or days set aside.
Here's how the main towns compare:
| Town | Where it is | What the clearances tend to be |
|---|---|---|
| Portlaoise | The county town, on the M7 | Estate houses, rentals, town-centre flats and offices |
| Portarlington | North-east, on the Offaly border | Commuter estates and older town houses |
| Mountmellick | North of Portlaoise | Terraces in town, farmhouses around it |
| Abbeyleix | South, off the M8 | Town houses on the main street and country homes |
| Mountrath | West, off the M7 near the Slieve Blooms | Bungalows, farmhouses and yards |
We're fully insured on every job, and as an authorised waste carrier we take everything away under permit NWCPO-25-13287-01.
Portlaoise: estates, flats and offices
Portlaoise grew quickly as a commuter town, and its older centre is now ringed by estates of semi-ds, terraces and detached houses. In those houses, the bulk of a clear-out is usually stored away: boxes in the attic, bikes and tools in the garage, broken furniture in the shed. Each can be booked by itself. See attic clearance and garage clear-outs.
In and around the town centre, there are flats over shops and apartment blocks, where stairs, lifts and management company rules shape the plan; our apartment clearance page covers those. We also turn rentals around for landlords and letting agents between tenancies, leaving anything on the inventory where it is.
Businesses in the town aren't left out. We clear offices, shops and small premises, from a few desks to a whole floor. See office clearance in Portlaoise.

Portarlington and Mountmellick
Portarlington sits on the Barrow and straddles the border with Offaly. With a station on the main line to Dublin, it has grown as a commuter town, and newer estates now surround an older centre. Mountmellick, north of Portlaoise, is a quieter market town with terraced streets and farmland right up to its edge.
Typical jobs in both towns include a family home being sold after a parent moves into care, a rental being turned around, or an estate house where the attic is finally being tackled before a move. For a town terrace, a photo of the street outside helps us plan where the van will stop.
East of Portlaoise, Stradbally and the villages out towards the Kildare border, such as Ballybrittas and Ballylinan, are covered the same way. The houses there range from cottages on the main streets to newer bungalows on the approach roads, and most come with a garage or a shed that needs emptying too.
Farmhouses towards the Slieve Blooms and the south
West of Portlaoise, out past Mountrath towards the Slieve Bloom Mountains, and south through Abbeyleix, Durrow and Rathdowney, Laois is farming country. Homes are mostly bungalows and two-storey farmhouses, and most have a yard with a workshop, a hay shed or a few stores.
Those outbuildings can hold more than the house. Old timber, tools, tyres, scrap metal and furniture moved out decades ago all go on the van, with the metals kept apart for recycling. A shed that's beyond saving can be emptied and taken down; see shed clearance. Farm chemicals, fuel and asbestos roof sheets are specialist jobs, so show them in your photos and we'll be straight with you about what we can't take.
Access is the other thing to photograph. Tell us how long the lane is, whether the gate is wide enough for a box van, where we can turn, and whether there are dogs or livestock in the yard. With that, we can bring the right van and plan the loading before we leave Dublin.

When it's a parent's house
When a Laois home is cleared after a death, the family is often scattered between Dublin, the midlands and abroad, and finding a weekend when everyone can be there is hard. We take it slowly. Papers, photographs and anything personal are set aside for you, and the house can be cleared in stages if the family wants to go through things between visits. Our bereavement clearance page explains how we work alongside executors and solicitors.
If a relative's home has become hard to live in because of what's built up, we're patient and discreet, and we never judge. See hoarder clearance.
Want a price for a Laois clearance? WhatsApp photos of every room, the attic and each outbuilding, with your Eircode. You'll get a fixed price back, usually the same day.
Price, timing and the rest of what we do in Laois
The price depends on the volume, the carry from the door to the van, any special disposal (fridges, freezers, mattresses and electricals) and the crew's time. Most full houses take one to two days. Whatever we quote is what you pay. Our house clearance page explains what's included in a full job.
Once the house is empty, it's the right time for the finishing touches before a sale or a new tenancy. We clean carpets with hot-water extraction (carpet cleaning) and wash driveways, patios and walls; see power washing in Portlaoise, or the full list of surfaces on our power washing page.
