Carpets in Rathmines flats, terraces and period houses
A lot of Rathmines is rented. There are flats in Victorian red-bricks that were divided up long ago, purpose-built apartment blocks near the main street, and family houses on the quieter roads heading towards Rathgar and Ranelagh. We clean carpets in all of them, and each one asks for slightly different planning.
The method stays the same. A portable hot-water extraction machine is carried into the flat, so a small top-floor bedroom gets the same clean as a ground-floor sitting room. Spots and traffic lanes are pre-treated first. Then hot water is rinsed through the pile and pulled straight back out, taking the loosened dirt with it. Air movers speed up drying, which typically takes a few hours, depending on ventilation and carpet type.
What we clean in Dublin 6:
- Fitted carpets in bedrooms, living rooms and halls
- Stairs and landings, including shared stairs in houses split into flats
- Sofas, armchairs and cushions, see upholstery cleaning
- Mattresses, handy between tenants, see mattress cleaning
- Rugs, cleaned where they lie, see rug cleaning
Moving out, or getting a flat ready for the next tenant
End-of-tenancy carpets come up constantly in an area with this many rentals. The most useful thing you can do is be straight with us about what's on the carpet when you send photos.
A coffee or wine spill from last month will very likely come out. A burn, a bleach mark or a worn patch inside the door is damage rather than dirt, and no amount of cleaning will reverse it. Old pet urine that has soaked through to the underlay is another hard one: we can usually improve it, but some of it can't be fully removed. We'd rather tell you that before you book than leave you disappointed on the day.
For landlords and letting agents, the easiest time is usually when the flat is empty, before the new tenants arrive. If there's furniture or rubbish to go first, our house clearance team in Rathmines can clear it out before the carpets are done, and the guide to getting a rental ready between tenants covers the rest of the changeover.

One sofa, a lot of use
In a small sitting room, the sofa does a lot of work: dinners on laps, flatmates, the odd late night. We clean fabric sofas and armchairs with a hand upholstery tool, after checking the care label and testing a hidden spot for colour run. The videos on this page include a sofa we cleaned in Rathmines, alongside two of our carpet jobs here.
Not every fabric should get wet, and stains that have sat for years may have set into the fibres. If your photos suggest either, we'll tell you plainly before you book anything.
Parking, stairs and upper floors
Most residential roads off Rathmines Road have permit or pay-and-display parking, so let us know what's outside when you book. A driveway, a space behind the house or somewhere close to unload all make the day quicker.
No lift? That's fine. The machine comes up the stairs with us, so a third- or fourth-floor flat takes a little longer to set up but is no problem to clean. The hoses stay inside the building rather than trailing across the footpath.
If the flat is in a shared house, give the other residents a heads-up. The machine is loud while it runs, and for an hour or two the hall may have a hose in it.
Before we arrive
- Lift small things off the floor: shoes, toys, chargers, laundry
- Tell us about anything fragile in the room
- Point out the stains that bother you most, and what caused them if you know
- Make sure we can get to a tap and a socket
- Plan to keep pets and small children off the carpet until it's dry
Pricing depends on how many rooms, whether there's a stairs and landing, any sofas or mattresses, and the condition of it all. Send photos, with rough room sizes if you have them, and you'll get a fixed price before anything is booked.
