Estates from the 1950s and 60s
Stillorgan grew up around the N11 in the 1950s and 60s, when estates of semi-detached houses and bungalows were built on both sides of the Stillorgan Road, along with the shopping centre that still anchors the village. Many of the first owners stayed for decades. Some still live there; in other houses, a younger family has moved in. More recently, apartment blocks have been added around the village and along the main road.
So a carpet job here can mean a few quite different things: a long-lived-in home with good carpet that just needs freshening, a family house with children and a dog, or an apartment with carpet in the bedrooms only.
A clean that fits around you
If you've lived in your home for a long time, the idea of a carpet clean can sound like more upheaval than it's worth. It doesn't have to be. Here's how we keep it easy:
- Room by room. One room at a time, so you always have a chair and somewhere to be.
- We move the light pieces. Chairs, side tables and footstools come out and go back. Heavy items are cleaned around.
- No need to go out. Stay in the kitchen with the radio on, if you like.
- A clear route. Hoses run along the walls, not across your path.
- Family can arrange it. A son, daughter or neighbour can send photos and book for you.
- Daytime visits. Monday to Saturday, between 8am and 8pm.
When we finish, we'll show you which rooms are still damp and which you can use straight away. Drying typically takes a few hours, depending on airflow.
What the before-and-after shows
The photo at the top of this page is a bedroom carpet with a dark lane running across it, the path between the door, the bed and the wardrobe. That's where feet go every day, and the soil there is a mix of fine grit and an oily film that vacuuming doesn't shift. The second photo shows the same lane part-way through cleaning, visibly lighter.
A traffic lane lifts with a pre-treatment that breaks down the oily film, followed by the hot rinse. How far it comes back depends on the carpet: soil comes out, but pile that's been walked flat for years may stay a little flatter than the rest. We'll give you an honest idea from your photos before you book.

Families in the estates
In the houses where younger families have moved in, the jobs look different: the hall and stairs, a living room with a sofa that the children and the dog share, and bedrooms with the usual spills. Most of it lifts. Coloured drinks and felt-tip can leave a shadow, and bleach or burns are permanent. Sofas can go on the same visit after a care-label check; see upholstery cleaning.
Some of those families are living with the carpet the previous owners chose. If it's sound, a clean is a good way to make it feel like your own before you decide whether to replace it, and it's far easier to do before your furniture arrives than after. Empty rooms take less time, and every strip along the skirting gets reached. If you're moving in soon, send photos of the empty house and we'll fit the clean in between the keys and the removal van.
Apartments off the N11
The apartments around Stillorgan are usually carpeted in the bedrooms, with timber or tiles elsewhere. A van can't stop on the Stillorgan Road itself, so tell us the side entrance, the car park arrangements and whether the lift needs booking. The extractor is portable, comes up in the lift and drains inside the apartment, so nothing is left in the corridors.
If you've downsized from a family house nearby, you may have brought good furniture with you, sometimes more than the rooms comfortably hold. That's fine. We'll work around the pieces that can't be moved and clean the carpet you can see, and if a bedroom is very full, a photo of it helps us plan how long it will take.
