How we plan a trip to Arklow
Arklow is at the southern end of County Wicklow, and we're based in Dublin, so a visit here is something we plan rather than something we can squeeze in at an hour's notice. There's no depot or local van. Instead, we group Arklow jobs with others in south Wicklow and north Wexford, so the drive down the M11 is worth it for everyone.
It works like this:
- You send photos and your Eircode on WhatsApp or through the form, with a few dates that suit you.
- We send a fixed price and the dates we can offer, usually the same day.
- You choose a day from those on offer, and it's held for you. Nothing is left to chance the night before.
If your dates are flexible, say so. It usually gets you an earlier visit.
Ferrybank, the town centre and the estates
Arklow sits on both banks of the Avoca river. The town houses near Main Street and the quays tend to have a narrow hall and a steep stairs, sometimes with a runner. Across the bridge in Ferrybank and around the edges of town there are estates of semis and newer family houses, with carpet upstairs and on the stairs.
In a town house, the hall usually needs the most work, because the front door opens almost straight onto the street. In an estate house, it's the stairs and landing, especially with children and a dog in the family. Tell us which you have and roughly how many rooms, and we'll plan the day around it.
Access is rarely a problem. Most estate houses have a driveway we can unload onto. In the centre, a flat above a shop or a terrace without parking just means a short carry from the nearest space, and the extractor is built to be carried up stairs. If there's a back entrance that's easier to reach, mention it with your photos.
Carpets in a rented house
Arklow has a fair number of rented homes, and carpets often get cleaned when one tenancy ends and the next begins. We're booked by landlords, letting agents and tenants, and the approach is the same: an honest forecast from the photos before anyone travels.
- Usually lifts: general grime, mud, food and drink, fresh pet accidents, the grey lane down the hall
- Often fades but may not vanish: red wine, curry, cola and old greasy marks
- Won't change: burns, bleach spots, flattened pile and old urine soaked into the underlay
If you're a tenant, book the clean for after you've moved your things out and before the inspection. What landlords usually check is set out in our end-of-tenancy carpet guide.
Holiday homes on the coast
North of the town, around Brittas Bay, and south towards the Wexford border, there are holiday homes and short-term lets that see a summer of sand, sun cream and wet towels. Their carpets need doing at the start or the end of the season, when nobody's staying.
Timing matters more than people expect. In spring and autumn, a house that isn't lived in is cold, and cold air holds the moisture in a freshly cleaned carpet for longer. If the heating can run for the afternoon after we finish, the carpet will be dry by evening; if not, it may take until the next day. Either way, air movers run while we pack up, and we'll suggest which doors and windows to leave open.
Mattresses in these houses are often the bigger worry. A mattress in a damp holiday home can pick up a stale smell, and children's beds see their share of accidents. We clean mattresses with a hand tool on the same visit; see mattress cleaning for what it can and can't do.

Arklow carpets, sofa and a mattress or two? Send photos of everything you'd like cleaned, your Eircode and the dates that suit. One fixed price covers the lot.
One trip, everything done
Because the journey is the biggest part of an Arklow visit, it makes sense to get everything cleaned at once:
- Fitted carpets in bedrooms, living rooms and halls
- Stairs and landings, by hand, one tread at a time
- Sofas and armchairs, after a care-label check; see upholstery cleaning
- Mattresses, for lets, guest rooms and children's beds
- Rugs, colour-tested before anything else
We're fully insured, and the carpet work is done by Ciprian and his small crew; Ciprian took his Prochem training in 2018. Expect the carpets to need a few hours to dry; the air movers get that started while we load the van.
Arklow and the villages around it
We cover Arklow, Ferrybank, Avoca, Woodenbridge, Aughrim, Brittas Bay and Coolgreany. Up the coast, see carpet cleaning in Wicklow town; over the county border, carpet cleaning in Gorey. Where a house is still full of furniture, house clearance in Arklow can empty it ahead of the clean. The wider picture, county by county, is on our Leinster carpet cleaning page.
