Three kinds of home, three kinds of job
Wicklow town is the county town, and the carpet work here falls into three fairly clear groups. Tell us which one you've got when you send photos, because each is planned a little differently.
| Home | Where you'll find it | What the carpet usually needs |
|---|---|---|
| Terraces and town houses | Around the centre and the harbour | A narrow hall and a steep stairs, cleaned tread by tread |
| Estate houses | On the edges of town and out towards Rathnew | Stairs, landing and bedrooms, with family and pet traffic |
| Holiday lets and coastal houses | Down the coast towards the Silver Strand and Brittas Bay | Sand, damp and a refresh between seasons |
Plenty of homes don't fit neatly, of course. A farmhouse up in the hills behind Glenealy is its own kind of job, with a back door onto the yard and boots crossing the hall every day.
Terraces near the harbour
The older streets around the centre and the harbour have terraced houses with front doors close to the footpath. The hall carpet takes everything the street brings in: grit, wet leaves and whatever the weather blows in off the harbour. Because the hall is narrow, everyone walks the same line, so the wear shows as a dark lane rather than general dullness.
We vacuum first, pre-treat that lane, then rinse and extract. The stairs in a terrace are usually steep and tight, so they're cleaned by hand with a small tool, one tread at a time, working from the top down so nobody walks on clean carpet.
Parking near the centre can be tight. That's fine: the machine is portable and comes into the house with us.
Holiday lets between seasons
Along the coast south of the town there are holiday homes and lets that get heavy use for a few months and then sit empty. Their carpets pick up sand, sun cream, spilled drinks and the general wear of a different family every week.
For lets like these:
- Book before the first guests or after the last, so the house is empty and there's time to dry.
- Check the water and electricity are on. The extractor needs a tap and a socket.
- Heat the house for a day beforehand if it's been closed up, so the carpet dries in a few hours rather than a day.
- Leave a key with a neighbour or in a key safe if you can't be there. We'll message you when we're done.
Mattresses in a let are worth doing at the same time. See mattress cleaning for what's involved.

The estates on the edge of town
The estates around the edges of Wicklow town and out towards Rathnew are mostly family houses with carpet upstairs. Here the work is the stairs, the landing and the bedrooms, plus whatever the children and the dog have added since the last clean.
Muddy paw prints, fresh accidents and general dog smell usually respond well. An old urine stain that has soaked into the underlay is a different matter, and we'll tell you honestly from the photos what to expect. Our page on pet carpet cleaning goes into more detail.
Before we arrive, lift the small things off the floor: toys, shoes, the laundry basket. We move light furniture such as chairs and bedside lockers ourselves and clean carefully around beds and wardrobes. If a room is due to be painted, book the carpets for after the painter has finished, not before.
Terrace, estate house or holiday let? Send photos of each room and the stairs, with your Eircode. You'll get a fixed price and a choice of dates.
How Wicklow town fits into our week
We're based in Dublin, and Wicklow town is a straightforward run down the N11 and M11. We don't keep a van in the town, so visits are booked in advance rather than at short notice. When we send your price, we offer dates, and if other jobs in the county are on the same day, everyone gets an earlier slot. To price a job we only need pictures: every carpeted room, the stairs, close-ups of the worst marks and a line about parking.
Drying typically takes a few hours. Air movers go on before we leave, and a window open on a dry day or the heating on in winter does the rest. We're fully insured on every job, and Ciprian completed his Prochem carpet-cleaning course in 2018.
Rathnew, Ashford, Glenealy and the coast
We cover Wicklow town and everywhere around it: Rathnew, Ashford, Glenealy, Brittas Bay and the coast road. Further up the county, see carpet cleaning in Greystones; further south, carpet cleaning in Arklow. For how we cover the rest of Leinster, see our carpet cleaning page for towns outside Dublin.
If a house needs emptying before the carpets are cleaned, for a sale or a new let, our Wicklow town house clearance service can do that first. The wider county is covered on our Wicklow page.
