The county town and the hills behind it
Wicklow town is small for a county town, built around its harbour, with older streets climbing up from the water and estates spreading out along the roads to Rathnew and beyond. Behind it, the land rises quickly into the hills, and within a few miles you're among cottages, bungalows and farmhouses up lanes that don't see much traffic.
That makes for a wide range of clearances from one small area. A two-storey terrace near the centre. A semi-d in an estate with a packed garage. A cottage outside Glenealy or Roundwood that's been in the family for generations. Spotless covers all of them as part of our Dublin and Leinster area, and Wicklow town is a straightforward run down the N11. Every job is priced from photos and booked on a date that gives us time to finish.
Older streets near the centre
The older houses in Wicklow town are mostly terraced, many of them opening directly onto the footpath. Inside, expect a narrow hall, a steep stairs, and in some cases a converted attic room reached by an even steeper one. The back yard, if there is one, is usually only accessible through the kitchen.
Our approach in these houses:
- Floors and the stair carpet are covered before anything moves.
- Beds, wardrobes and shelving are dismantled where they stand.
- The contents are brought down and lined up inside, ready to go.
- The van pulls in for short loads, so the street is clear again quickly.
Typical jobs here are rentals between tenants and family homes being made ready for sale. For flats over shops or in managed blocks, see apartment clearance.

Estates on the edge of town
The estates around Wicklow town and out towards Rathnew are easier to load from, with driveways and short carries. In these houses the clear-out is usually stored away: the loft, the garage and the garden shed. Any one of them can be done on its own. See attic clearance, garage clear-outs and shed clearance. If you're getting ready to sell, clearing these spaces before the estate agent's photos makes the house look bigger and the buyers' surveyor's job easier.
Up in the hills
The cottages and farmhouses in the hills west of the town are a different job entirely. The house is often only half of it. There may be a stone outhouse, a car shed, a lean-to, and a garden that has been left to grow. Lanes can be narrow and steep, and some houses have nowhere for a van to turn.
Inside, hill houses that have been in one family for a long time tend to hold several generations of furniture, bedding, books and kitchenware, with the overflow moved out to the sheds over the years. Expect the outbuildings to take as long as the rooms.
So the planning starts with access. Send us a photo of the lane, the gate and the space in front of the house, and tell us whether a large van can get in. If it can't, we'll plan around it with a smaller load, a longer carry or an extra trip, and price that honestly from the start. Anything hazardous, such as old heating oil, chemicals or roof sheets that might be asbestos, goes to a specialist, so show us in the photos.

When the clearance is personal
When a family home is being cleared after a death, especially one that's been lived in for decades, we take our time. Letters, photographs and anything that looks important are set aside, and the work can be split across visits so the family can go through things in between. Our bereavement clearance page explains how that works. If a relative's home has become overwhelmed by possessions, hoarder clearance is patient, private and led by them.
How it's priced, and the finish
The quote comes from your photos. It's built on the volume, how awkward the carry is, any items with a separate disposal route such as fridges and mattresses, and the time we'll be on site, with the drive from Dublin included. Once you accept it, it doesn't change.
We're fully insured, and we take the contents away as an authorised waste carrier under permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. As we load, reusable furniture is set to one side where possible, metals and appliances are separated for recycling, and the remainder goes to licensed facilities.
Once a house is empty, carpet cleaning in Wicklow town and power washing for the driveway and paths are worth considering before a sale. Our house clearance page lists everything a full job includes, and house clearance in Wicklow covers the rest of the county, including Arklow to the south.
