Enniskerry and the country around it
Enniskerry sits in a wooded valley a short drive inland from Bray, just west of the N11 and right at the foot of the Dublin mountains. The village itself is small, a planned estate village laid out in the nineteenth century around a little square of shops. Beyond it, houses spread up the hills towards Glencree and Kilmacanogue and across to the county border at Kilternan: modern detached homes, older farmhouses, and a fair number of large country houses set back behind gates.
That mix means two very different kinds of house clearance, and we plan each on its own terms.
Village cottages and terraces
The older houses in and around the village are compact. Low ceilings, narrow stairs and small rooms mean belongings collect in the spare room and the attic. A dresser or a wardrobe carried in fifty years ago may have been squeezed past a door frame that has since been changed, so we dismantle it where it stands instead of forcing it round a corner.
Parking is what needs planning in the village. The streets are narrow, and at weekends the square fills with cyclists, walkers and visitors on their way to Powerscourt. We suggest a weekday morning and keep the van's stop as short as possible by staging everything inside first.

Country houses up long drives
Further out, a house clearance looks more like a small removal operation. Country houses around Enniskerry often have:
- Several reception rooms, with heavy antique or period furniture that needs two or three people and blankets
- Big lofts, over the main house and sometimes over a garage as well
- Outbuildings such as old stables, workshops, log stores and garages with decades of tools
- Gardens with sheds, greenhouses, broken furniture and heaps of cuttings
Good solid furniture is kept back for reuse where possible, and books and ornaments in decent condition go the same way. Metals, appliances and cardboard are recycled, and the rest goes to licensed facilities. When we're working in someone's grounds over several days, it matters that we're fully insured on every job, and everything leaves under our waste collection permit, NWCPO-25-13287-01.
Hills, gates and getting the van close
Access is the real variable out here. Roads around Enniskerry climb steeply, some are barely wider than a car, and plenty of houses are reached by a gravel or tarmac drive with a gate at the bottom. Before we price, we like to see:
- The gateway, and how wide the entrance is
- The drive, including any bends, slopes or soft verges
- Where a van could turn, or whether it would have to reverse out
- How far it is from the nearest parking spot to the front door
If a Luton can't get close, we park where it can and bring loads down by trolley or with our smaller van. That adds time, so it goes into the price from the start. Grass verges turn soft in wet weather, and for some houses we'll suggest waiting for a dry spell.
We're based in Dublin, and Enniskerry is an easy run out the N11 for us, so distance isn't the issue; the last few hundred metres are. For a big house, we may book a longer day or two days back to back, so the van can be emptied between loads and the work keeps moving.

Outside the house
On a country property, the outside can take as long as the inside. Shed contents, old garden machinery, broken greenhouses, fence panels and garden waste can all be part of one job. A shed that's past saving can be emptied and taken down; see shed clearance. Workshops and garages are covered on garage clear-outs, and big roof spaces on attic clearance.
If some of the outside things are staying, such as a good mower for the new owners, the log store or a set of garden benches, leave them where they are and tell us. We clear around them, and photograph each building when it's done so you can see exactly what's left.
When a family home is being settled
Many Enniskerry clearances happen because a house is being sold after a death, or because the person living there can no longer manage the stairs and the garden. We work quietly and at the family's pace, over one day or several, with you there or not. Papers, photographs and anything that might have value are set aside, never thrown out. Our bereavement clearance page explains how this works across Leinster. Where a house has become very cluttered over the years, hoarder clearance explains how we stage the work, and if the move is into an apartment, apartment clearance covers the smaller end.
Down on the coast, we have pages for Bray and Greystones. For the rest of the county, see house clearance in Wicklow, or start with our main house clearance page.
