The last stop before Wicklow
Shankill is the southern end of Dublin 18, where the county runs out and Bray begins across the boundary. The N11 and M11 run along its western side, the DART line along the coast, and the village sits in between. For a clearance crew it's a straightforward place to work: most homes have a drive, most roads are quiet, and we're on site quickly from the M50.
Most of the housing is estates of semis and bungalows built in the second half of the last century, with older cottages and houses around the village and larger one-off homes out towards Rathmichael. Newer apartment schemes have gone up towards Cherrywood and Loughlinstown as well.
Estate semis and bungalows
In Shankill's estates, the work is rarely about access and nearly always about storage. Decades of family life end up in three places:
- The attic. Often floored in parts, sometimes converted into a room with a fixed stairs, and usually full of suitcases, decorations, old toys and boxes nobody has opened in years. See attic clearance.
- The garage. Many estate houses still have one, or a converted store at the side, holding tools, bikes, shelving and a chest freezer. See garage clear-outs.
- The back garden. A shed, a greenhouse, garden furniture and the odd trampoline. See shed clearance.
Bungalows have their own quirks. Dormer bungalows often have narrow stairs to the upper rooms and low eaves storage behind small doors, which takes longer to empty than you'd expect. A typical semi or bungalow clears in a day; add a little time if the attic and garage are both packed.
Most of these estates are laid out around cul-de-sacs and greens, so the van can usually pull up close to the door. If your house faces onto a green or a footpath rather than the road, tell us roughly how far it is to the nearest parking spot, because a longer carry is part of the price.

Cottages near the village
Around Shankill village and along the older roads, there are cottages and small houses with narrower halls and little or no off-street parking. These take the opposite approach to an estate house: less volume, more care with the carry. We take bigger pieces apart in the room and stage everything near the door before the van pulls up, so it isn't on the road for long. A cottage is usually a morning or a day.
Rathmichael and the bigger plots
West of the motorway, Rathmichael's houses sit on larger sites, often with long drives, mature gardens and outbuildings: a garden room, a workshop, a stable or a double garage. These are bigger jobs, usually over two days, with more ground to cover. Some of the lanes out here are narrow, with high hedges and few places to pass, so a photo of the lane as well as the drive helps us choose the van. We'll also want photos of every outbuilding, plus any gate codes before the day. We can't take old fuel, chemicals or anything that might contain asbestos, so those need to go another way before the day.

Why people in Shankill call us
- Downsizing from a family semi into an apartment, often nearby. We clear what won't fit once the movers have taken what's going.
- After a death, when the family needs a house emptied gently and in its own time. We set aside papers, photos and keepsakes as we go. See bereavement house clearance.
- A sale or a letting, with an estate agent waiting for empty rooms. See property clearance.
- An apartment changing hands in one of the newer schemes, with lifts and management company rules to work around. See apartment clearance.
- A home that's become overwhelmed, where we work quietly and at the pace of the person living there. See hoarder clearance.
On the day, and after
The crew arrives at the agreed time, walks through the house with you and confirms what's staying. Covers go down on the stairs and hall, and the clear-out runs from the top of the house down. Every drawer, box and coat pocket is checked before it leaves. At the end, the rooms are swept or vacuumed, and you get photos if you're not there.
The price is fixed from your photos before you book. It reflects the volume, the carry and any items with their own disposal route, like fridges, mattresses and electricals. Usable pieces are saved for reuse when we can, metal and white goods head for recycling, and the remainder ends up at licensed sites, collected under permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. The crew is fully insured on every job.
