Clearing a home in Greystones
Greystones sits on the coast just south of Bray Head, at the end of the DART line, with Delgany inland, Kilcoole further down the coast and the N11 running past to the west. It's mostly family homes: older houses near the harbour and the centre, estates built from the 1970s onwards, and the large newer developments at Charlesland and the south of the town.
In and around the town we empty complete houses, odd rooms, lofts, garages, sheds and back gardens. You get a single agreed figure from your photos before anything is booked, and we sweep out each room on the way.
Here's what you get on the day:
- A crew that checks as it goes. Drawers, boxes, coat pockets and bags are opened before anything leaves, and papers, photos and valuables are handed to you.
- Your pace. Tell us what's staying in advance, or decide piece by piece while we're there.
- Care with the house. The stairs are covered before anything heavy moves, and furniture taken apart where that's safer than forcing it through a doorway.
- The outside too. Sheds, garages and garden rubbish cleared in the same job.
Sheds, gardens and garages
Many Greystones homes have a decent back garden, and with it a shed that's been filling for years. It's often the part of the job people dread most: rusted tools, half-empty paint tins, a lawnmower that hasn't started since the last owner, folding chairs and a sun canopy nobody has opened in a decade.
We clear all of it. Scrap metal is recycled, tools and furniture that still work are kept back for reuse where we can, and the remainder goes to licensed facilities. If the shed itself is rotten, we take it down and remove it as part of the job. The same goes for garages and side passages: bikes, boxes, old furniture, a chest freezer, or a workshop someone has finally decided to let go. See shed clearance and garage clear-outs.
Downsizing in Greystones
If you're moving within Greystones, say from a family house to a smaller place near the harbour or the village, the house first needs to shrink to fit the new home. A plan that tends to work:
- Measure the new rooms and decide which furniture actually fits.
- Give family a date to collect what they'd like to keep.
- Pack and clearly mark everything that's coming with you.
- Send us photos of the rest, including the attic, garage and shed.
- We clear it before the move, after it, or split across both.
The loft is often the biggest surprise. Our attic clearance page explains how we clear it safely without disturbing the insulation.
If the house belonged to a parent who has died, we work gently and can split the clearance over several days. See our bereavement house clearance page. And where the sheer amount stored in a home has become overwhelming, our hoarder clearance service is calm, discreet and non-judgemental.
Around Greystones, Delgany and Kilcoole
Access here is usually easy. Most estate houses have a driveway and we can load straight from it. The older roads near the centre and the seafront can be tighter for parking, and harbour apartments come with management company rules, so a quick note with your photos helps us plan.
If you're further out, in Delgany village, Kilcoole or the country roads towards Kilpedder and Newtownmountkennedy, that's no problem. Tell us about long drives, gates or steep entrances, and whether a large van can turn.
If family members are coming down from Dublin to meet us, the DART into Greystones station is handy. We can agree a time at the start of the day to walk through what stays, then get on with the rest while you head off.

The price, and what happens to everything
Prices here follow the contents: the van loads, how long and awkward the carry is, any fridges, freezers, mattresses or electricals needing separate disposal, and the hours involved. Nearly every Greystones quote is done from photos, with no visit, and the fixed figure is agreed before you book. Our house clearance cost guide explains the factors.
Sorting happens as the van fills: furniture and household goods worth keeping are put aside where possible, metal, appliances and electricals are recycled, and what's left goes to licensed facilities. We're an authorised waste carrier (permit NWCPO-25-13287-01). Selling up? Once the house is empty we can power wash the driveway and patio as well.
