A town that grew quickly
Gorey has grown fast over the last couple of decades, and most of that growth is in the estates around the edges of the town. A lot of the people who live in them commute, up the M11 towards Dublin or to work elsewhere in Wexford and Wicklow, and a lot of them have young families.
That shapes what we get asked to clean. The carpets are usually still the ones that went in when the house was new, or a few years after, and they've had a hard decade of children, pets and busy weekday mornings. The stairs and landing are generally the worst, followed by the children's bedrooms and the main bedroom's path from the door to the bed.
Where the carpet is in a newer Gorey house
The layout tends to be similar from one estate to the next:
| Room | Usual floor | What we normally do |
|---|---|---|
| Hall | Tiles or timber | Nothing to clean, but it's where grit enters the house |
| Living room | Timber or laminate, often with a rug | Clean the rug on site |
| Stairs and landing | Carpet | Clean by hand, tread by tread |
| Bedrooms | Carpet | Pre-treat the lanes and marks, then rinse and extract |
| Playroom or box room | Carpet | Often the most stained room in the house |
Because the hall is usually tiled, people expect the stairs to stay clean. In practice, grit carried in from the driveway gets lifted straight onto the first few steps, and it works its way up from there. A mat at the front door and another at the bottom of the stairs slows it down.
Rugs in the living room get a colour test before anything else, and the fringes are handled separately. Our rug cleaning page explains which rugs we clean on site and which are better left to a specialist.
Light carpets that show everything
Plenty of Gorey houses have pale carpet upstairs: oatmeal, beige, light grey. It looks great when it's new and shows every footprint once it isn't. The good news is that most pale synthetic carpet cleans up well, because the dirt is sitting in the pile rather than dyed into it.
What makes the difference is the pre-treatment. A grey lane on a light carpet is mostly oily soil, and plain hot water won't move it. A pre-spray, worked in, loosens it, and the extraction carries it away. Spots get their own treatment based on what caused them. For the tougher ones, such as red drinks, make-up or old pet marks, see carpet stain removal.

Commuting? Book a Saturday or leave a key
With both adults out of the house all week, finding a day for a carpet clean is often the hardest part. Two things help. We work Saturdays, and a Saturday morning clean leaves the afternoon for drying. Or someone else can let us in on a weekday: a neighbour, a relative or a key safe.
Drying typically takes a few hours, and air movers run before we leave. Leave the heating on and the bedroom doors open, and the carpet will usually be fine for socks by evening. If the sofa needs doing too, add a photo; see upholstery cleaning.
Just bought a house in Gorey?
With so many people moving into and around the town, a lot of our Gorey work is in houses that have just changed hands. If you've bought a house with carpets you're keeping, the best time to clean them is before your furniture arrives. The rooms are empty, every corner can be reached, and the carpet dries quickly with nothing standing on it.
Get any painting done first, then book the carpets, then move in. If the previous owners had a dog or a cat, mention it when you send the photos, because pet odour in a carpet is often only noticed once the house is warm and lived in. Our guide to cleaning carpets before moving in goes through the timing with painters and removals.

How Gorey fits into our diary
We're based in Dublin, and Gorey is a run down the M11. We plan Gorey visits in advance, usually alongside jobs in Arklow and north Wexford, and we'll offer dates when we send your price. We're fully insured on every job, and the carpet work is led by Ciprian, who took a Prochem carpet-cleaning course in 2018.
Gorey, Courtown and the villages
We cover Gorey town and the estates around it, Courtown, Riverchapel and Ballymoney on the coast, and Camolin, Ballycanew and the countryside inland. The holiday homes near the beaches are cleaned the same way, ideally before or after the busy summer weeks.
Just over the county border, see carpet cleaning in Arklow; further south, carpet cleaning in Wexford town. Moving out, or taking over a house that's still full? House clearance in Gorey can empty it before we clean. The rest of our coverage is on carpet cleaning in the rest of Leinster.
