Navan's big estates
Navan has grown a great deal over the last thirty years, and most of that growth came as large estates: Johnstown, Blackcastle and Athlumney, and many more off the Trim, Kells and Dublin roads. Houses in them were often built in big phases, so whole roads of drives were laid at the same time and have aged together since.
The typical Navan drive is block paving, wide enough for two cars and sometimes much wider on a corner site. Some are plain or imprinted concrete. After fifteen or twenty winters, most show the same wear: green edges, moss and weeds packed into the joints, and a dark band where the cars sit every night.
Because a road's drives tend to age together, it's common for a few neighbours to want the work done around the same time. If that's the case on your road, send the photos together and we'll quote each house separately for the same trip.
How Navan dates are planned
We're based in Dublin, and Navan is an easy run up the M3. To keep the travel sensible, we schedule our Navan work into set days instead of fitting single jobs in at short notice. When you send photos, the fixed price comes back with a date, so you can plan around it from the start.
If the patio, the roofline or the walls need attention too, it's far better to bundle them into the same trip. Spring fills up first, when everyone wants the winter's green gone, while late summer and autumn are usually easier to book.
Double drives, corner plots and imprinted concrete
A bigger drive simply takes longer, and we'll tell you how long to expect when we price it. The work itself is the same as on any block paving: hot water lifting algae and traffic film from the blocks, while the spray clears moss and weeds from the joints. Oil that has soaked in over the years tends to lighten rather than lift out entirely.
Imprinted concrete needs more thought. It has a coloured surface, usually finished with a sealer when it was laid, and that coating wears with age. We wash it at a lower pressure so a tired coating isn't lifted further. Cleaning brings back a lot of the look, but it can't replace colour or sealer that has worn away. Re-sealing is a specialist job, and not one we offer. Our driveway cleaning page covers every surface in more detail.

Patios behind the house
Back gardens in Navan's estates are often roomier than their Dublin equivalents, and the patio tends to be bigger to match. Sandstone, concrete slabs and porcelain are all common. Where a fence or a shed shades part of it, that corner goes green and slippery every winter, which matters when children are running in and out.
Garden furniture, trampolines and toys need to come off the patio before we start. If something is too heavy to shift, tell us and we'll work round it.
Hot water takes concrete slabs and porcelain back to clean quickly. Sandstone is softer, so it gets a gentler pressure, and black lichen spots on it fade over the following weeks rather than rinsing away. More on each stone in patio cleaning.

The rest of the house
While we're there, the same trip can take in the roofline and walls. Roof moss comes off without any high-pressure blasting (roof cleaning), blocked gutters and downpipes are cleared, and rendered or pebble-dashed walls that have gone green on the north side get a soft wash (soft washing).
Detached houses and dormer bungalows on the edges of town often have bigger roofs and longer runs of gutter, so photograph every side of the house rather than just the front.
Want a price for your Navan drive or patio? WhatsApp a few photos of each area with your Eircode. We'll reply with a fixed price and a date on our next Navan trip.
Sending photos from Navan
Two photos per area, one wide and one close, are enough for most jobs. Add your Eircode, a note about side access and anything you'd like left alone. We'll need an outside tap and a power socket we can use, so tell us where they are when you send photos. Where the drains are matters too, since that's where the water needs to go.
Navan jobs are fully insured like all our work, and nothing is booked until you're happy with the price. Our other trades work here too: house clearance in Navan, house clearance across Meath and carpet cleaning in Navan. For Drogheda and the east Meath coast, see power washing in Drogheda, and for the whole range, see power washing.
