Carpets, stairs and sofas in Lucan homes
Lucan is mostly family estates: semi-detached and terraced houses built from the 1970s onwards, newer homes and apartments in Adamstown, and older houses around the village by the Liffey. In most of them, the carpets that need cleaning are the same few: the living room, the stairs and landing, the bedrooms, and the sofa everyone sits on.
Here's what to expect for each.
The living room
This is the busiest floor in the house, with a lane from the door to the sofa, a darker area where feet rest, and the odd spill. We pre-treat the lanes and spots, then rinse with hot water and extract. Recent spills usually come out well; older marks may fade rather than disappear. If a rug sits on top of the carpet, lift it before we arrive so we can clean what's underneath, and we can clean the rug separately.
Stairs and landing
Stairs are cleaned tread by tread with a hand tool, and the landing with the main wand. The front edge of each tread takes the most wear. Cleaning lifts the grey look, but pile that has been flattened or frayed stays that way.
Bedrooms
Usually the lightest part of the job, unless there's a child's room with juice, slime or play dough to deal with. Clearing toys and clothes off the floor beforehand saves time. Bedrooms also dry quickly once the window is open, so they're often back in use well before bedtime.
The sofa
Both videos on this page are from Lucan: an upholstery clean and a sofa clean. We clean fabric sofas, armchairs and cushions with a hand upholstery tool after checking the care label and testing for colour run. See upholstery cleaning for which fabrics can and can't be cleaned this way.

Drying: what "a few hours" depends on
Carpets are typically dry in a few hours, depending on ventilation and carpet type. In practice, a few things make the difference:
- Air flow. A window or two open and the internal doors left open speed things up a lot.
- Heat. Leaving the heating on, especially on a damp day, helps the moisture go.
- Air movers. We can set these up to blow across the carpet while it dries.
- Carpet type. Thick wool and heavy underlay hold more moisture than a thin synthetic.
- The weather. A wet, muggy day is slower than a dry, breezy one.
Sofas follow the same rules. Standing the seat cushions on their edges helps them dry evenly on both sides.
Photos, pricing and parking
The price depends on the rooms, the stairs and landing, any sofas or mattresses, and their condition. You don't need a measuring tape. A handful of photos on WhatsApp is enough for a fixed price, usually the same day, as long as they show:
- Each room from the doorway, so we can see the size and how much furniture is in it
- The stairs from the bottom and the landing from the top step
- Close-ups of the worst stains, with a note of what caused them if you know
- The sofa from the front, plus its care label (usually under a seat cushion)
- Anything unusual, such as a rug, a pale wool carpet or a pet problem area
Many Lucan houses have a driveway, which makes unloading easy. In an apartment, tell us about lifts and parking. The price we quote is the price we confirm before booking, so there's no guessing on the day.

Lucan, Adamstown and nearby
We cover Lucan village, Adamstown, Griffeen, Esker and the estates either side of the N4, plus Clondalkin and Palmerstown. The homes vary more than people think: a 1970s semi with its original stairs carpet, a newer Adamstown apartment with a lift and a management company, and an older house near the village with a steep, narrow stairs all need slightly different planning, which is why the photos matter. Across the county line, Leixlip and Celbridge are on our Kildare carpet cleaning page, and Dublin 15 is covered by our Blanchardstown upholstery cleaning page.
For beds, see mattress cleaning, and for rugs, rug cleaning. The full service, from first photo to final walk-through, is on our carpet cleaning in Dublin page.
