Offices, practices and school buildings
Rathfarnham's working spaces are mostly small: offices above shops in the village, practices along the main roads, a few office parks such as Nutgrove, and a lot of schools, each with an office, a staff room and a storeroom that fills up year after year. The area spreads from the village out along Butterfield Avenue and the Grange Road and up towards Ballyboden and Knocklyon, so a job here can mean anything from a shopfront office to a school site near the foothills. The clear-outs tend to be about making room rather than moving out. Old furniture replaced, a storeroom reclaimed, equipment that's been superseded finally taken away.
If a whole office is closing rather than clearing out, our main office clearance page covers full exits and handovers.
School admin rooms and storerooms
Schools are a big part of Rathfarnham, and their clear-outs follow the calendar. The summer holidays are the obvious window, with mid-term breaks and Easter for smaller jobs. Typical items:
- Old desks and chairs from classrooms and the staff room, once replacements have arrived.
- Filing cabinets and cupboards from the office and the principal's room.
- Superseded IT: old PCs, monitors, projectors and printers.
- Storeroom clutter: broken furniture, old display boards, outdated resources and packaging.
We work with whoever is in charge on the day, usually the principal, the deputy or the caretaker, and agree which areas we can use and which we can't. If the building is in use for summer camps or other activities, we keep our route well clear of them.
A summer clear-out tends to go best in this order:
- Before the end of term: staff mark what's going, and the caretaker gathers it into one or two rooms if there's space.
- Early in the holidays: we come in and clear, while the building is quiet and before any painting or maintenance starts.
- Before September: new furniture is delivered into rooms that are already clear.
Smaller jobs, such as a single storeroom or a staff room, fit into a mid-term break or a Saturday.
Two things stay with the school: pupil and staff records, which are personal data and need shredding by a specialist (we don't shred), and the drives in old computers, which must be wiped or removed (we don't provide data destruction). Wall-mounted boards and projectors need taking down by an electrician or installer before we take them away.

Small offices and practices around the village
Away from the schools, Rathfarnham has plenty of small professional offices: accountants, solicitors, dentists, physios, architects and estate agents, many above shops in the village or in converted houses along the main roads. Their clear-outs are usually a room or two: the old reception furniture, a back office full of files, the kitchen's tired appliances.
These are short jobs. We start early, clear what's marked and are gone before the day gets going. Where the office is up a narrow stair over a shop, furniture comes apart upstairs and goes down in pieces, and the shop's doorway is kept clear between trips. Practices with patient records should read the same note as the schools: records and drives are dealt with by you before we arrive. Our planning guide has a checklist for the IT side.
The village, the castle and where to stop
The village is the tricky part. The main street is busy, parking is short-stay, and the roads around the castle and the shopping centre fill up through the day. So:
- Start early. At 8am there's a far better chance of a space near the door.
- Tell us about the back. A lane, yard or private car park behind the building makes loading much easier.
- Show us the stairs. Offices above shops usually mean a narrow stair and a longer carry.
Office parks such as Nutgrove have their own car parks, so access there is simpler. Schools usually have a yard or car park we can use, especially in the holidays.
Planning a clear-out in Rathfarnham? Send photos of the rooms, the stairs and the parking, with the dates that work, be that a holiday week or an early start. We'll reply with a fixed price, usually the same day.
Where it goes, and the price
Furniture that's still serviceable is set aside for reuse where possible, which suits school furniture in decent condition; sturdy desks, chairs and cupboards often have years of use left in them. Electricals, metal and cardboard are recycled, and the rest goes to licensed facilities. We're an authorised waste carrier (NWCPO-25-13287-01) and fully insured, details a school board may want to see before booking.
The fixed price is based on volume, the carry and any dismantling. For one or two pieces, furniture removal is simpler. For homes in the area, see house clearance in Rathfarnham and Templeogue. Offices nearby are on our Terenure and Dundrum pages.
