What a Docklands tech floor leaves behind
Grand Canal Dock is full of technology companies, around Grand Canal Square, Barrow Street, Hanover Quay and Sir John Rogerson's Quay. Their offices empty differently from a solicitor's practice or a council office, because the contents are different. There's less paper and far more equipment.
A typical floor here includes:
- Rows of monitors, often two per desk, plus docking stations, keyboards and headsets
- Electric sit-stand desks, each with motors, a control box and cabling
- Phone booths and meeting pods, free-standing and heavy
- Breakout furniture: sofas, high stools, beanbags, games tables
- Lockers from hot-desking, and big kitchens with fridges and coffee machines
- Boxes of cables, chargers and adapters that built up over years of refreshes
None of that is difficult to clear, but it's a lot of electrical waste, and it has to be handled properly. The general service is on our main office clearance page. This page is about the Docklands version of it.
Electricals by the van-load
Anything with a plug, a battery or a motor goes to electrical recycling, kept separate from the general waste. That includes the sit-stand desk frames, which people sometimes assume are just furniture. We take the frames apart on site, put the desktops with the furniture, and keep the motors and control boxes with the electricals.
Data stays with you. Under GDPR, the company holding personal data is responsible for it on old devices, so laptops, phones, tablets and servers should be wiped or removed and logged by your IT team or a data-destruction provider before we arrive. We don't offer data destruction or issue destruction certificates. If any desktop PCs are coming with the clearance, take the drives out first, or ask us to set every drive aside for you.

Booking the bay and the goods lift
Buildings around the dock are well set up for deliveries, and that helps. Most have a loading bay or service yard, a goods lift and a security desk. The catch is that every tenant, courier and contractor shares them, so building management hands out slots.
What we'll need from you, or directly from them:
- The bay and the time. Which entrance contractors use, and how long the van can stay.
- The goods lift slot. Many buildings only release it outside the working day.
- Their contractor rules. Sign-in, passes, lift protection and any paperwork they want in advance.
- The floor. And whether the goods lift reaches it directly or we change lifts on the way down.
Evenings around Grand Canal Square can be busy when there's a show on at the theatre, which can slow loading in and out of the square. We'll factor that into the timing if your building is nearby. Other parts of the city have their own quirks, and our page on office clearance in Dublin compares them.
Clearing a tech floor around the dock? Send photos of the floor, the kitchen and the loading bay, with the building name and the lift times you've been offered. We'll reply with a fixed price, usually the same day.
Out of hours: evenings and Saturdays
"Out of hours" in a Docklands building usually means the goods lift is ours once the working day is over. Our normal hours are Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm, closed Sundays, and for an office building that needs it we offer out-of-hours slots in the evening or on a Saturday. A smaller floor fits in an evening. A full floor might take two or three evenings, or one Saturday, which is often the simplest option where the building allows it. We do not work Sundays, so if the building can only offer a slot we cannot match, tell us early and we will look at Saturdays instead.
Downsizing a floor, not closing it
A lot of clearances here aren't full exits. With hybrid working, many companies need fewer desks, give up part of a floor, or consolidate two floors into one. That calls for a partial clearance:
- Zones, not rooms. We work from a floor plan with the clearing areas marked.
- Tags on what stays. One colour for staying, and anything unmarked in a clearing zone goes.
- Spare desks kept back. If you want a few spares stored on site, say so and we'll leave them stacked.
- Quiet areas respected. Dismantling is done early or late so people still working aren't disturbed.
Furniture in good condition is set aside for reuse where possible. Metal frames are recycled and the rest goes to licensed facilities. We don't do strip-out, so raised floors, glazed partitions and fitted kitchens are for your fit-out contractor.
What it costs, and other Docklands pages
The price depends on the volume, how much electrical waste there is, the lift slots, and how many visits the building's rules require. You'll get a fixed figure from photos before anything is booked. Spotless is an authorised waste carrier, with permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, and fully insured, which covers the documents most building managers ask to see.
Our office clear-out services page lists each part of an office we can clear, and our planning guide works back from a lease end. Nearby, we also clear the period offices in Ballsbridge, and apartments around the dock through our southside apartment clearance page. Once the floor is clear, commercial carpet cleaning gets the carpet tiles ready for handback.
