Garden rooms, big sheds and what's behind them
Carrickmines gardens tend to be generous, and so are the buildings in them. Alongside the usual timber shed, it's common to find a large garden room, an insulated home office or gym, a log store, a summer house or an older outbuilding that predates the newer homes around it.
Those buildings were built for a purpose, and often outgrew it. The garden office became a store when work moved back to the office. The gym became the place for the patio furniture over winter. And behind all of them is the stuff that collects at the edge of a big garden: cuttings, old pots, broken trampolines, timber left over from the deck.
We clear all of it in one visit, from photos you send of each building and the garden around it.
Garden rooms bring their own kind of contents. A former home office might still hold a desk, an office chair, shelving, a filing cabinet and a heater. A garden gym tends to have a treadmill, a bench, mats and a rack of weights. We take furniture apart where it needs to be, carry the heavy pieces out with enough hands, and send electrical equipment for recycling. If any paperwork is left in a desk or a filing cabinet, it's handed to you, not bagged.
Mowers, strimmers and garden machinery
A big garden needs big kit, and old garden machinery tends to stay in the shed long after it's been replaced. We regularly see petrol mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, rotavators and old chainsaws.
- Fuel out first. Run mowers dry or drain them, and empty spare fuel cans, before we arrive.
- Cordless tools and batteries. These go for electrical and battery recycling, not general waste.
- Working machines. Set aside for reuse where possible.
- Broken machines. Recycled as metal and electrical waste.
If you've a ride-on mower or something very heavy, mention it, so we bring enough hands and the box van with its tail lift.

Green waste in the same visit
Bigger gardens make more green waste than the brown bin can take, and a lot of it ends up piled behind the shed. We can take it in the same trip as the shed contents.
What we usually take:
- bags of grass, leaves and clippings
- branches and hedge cuttings, cut to a manageable length
- old plants, pots and compost bags
- broken trellis, fencing panels and timber edging
Soil, turf and stone are heavy and fill van space fast, so put them in your photos separately. If the garden needs more than a tidy-up, our garden clearance page covers larger jobs.
Emptying a garden room, or taking it away
There are three ways a garden room or large shed job can go, and your photos help us agree which one fits:
| Option | What we do | What's left |
|---|---|---|
| Empty it | Take out everything you don't want and sweep the floor | A clean, usable building |
| Empty and remove | Clear it, then take the building apart and remove it | The base or slab it stood on |
| Part clear | Clear the clutter, leave furniture or equipment you're keeping | The building, set up as you want it |
Garden rooms with power need an electrician to disconnect them first. Glazed doors and windows are taken out whole and carried separately, and insulation is bagged as it comes out. Concrete bases, screw piles and paving usually stay, so ask if you need them removed. If the building is staying and you only want it emptied, see our contents-only shed clear-out.

Want a price for a shed or garden room in Carrickmines? Photograph each building inside and out, plus any green waste, and send them on WhatsApp. We'll reply with a fixed price, usually the same day.
What happens to it all
Everything is sorted as it's loaded. Garden furniture, tools and machines in good order are set aside for reuse where we can. Metal and electricals go for recycling, and green waste and everything else go to licensed facilities. Two things matter when a crew is working in your garden and taking things away: an authorised waste carrier's permit and proper insurance. Ours is permit NWCPO-25-13287-01, and we're fully insured on site.
We can't take paint, garden chemicals, weedkiller or gas bottles, so a civic amenity site is the place for those. Older outbuildings sometimes have cement-sheet roofs that may contain asbestos; we don't break up or remove those, and a specialist contractor has to.
Pricing a bigger garden
The price is fixed from your photos and agreed before you book. With several buildings and green waste, we price everything together. It depends on the volume, whether anything is being taken down, the carry from the end of the garden, and any heavy materials like soil or rubble.
Many Carrickmines homes need more than one space cleared. See garage clear-outs in Carrickmines for double garages and workshops, and attic clearance in Carrickmines for big floored lofts. Once the garden is clear, patio cleaning finishes it off. For the whole house, see our Carrickmines house clear-out page. Our shed clearance service page covers sheds of every size across Dublin and Leinster, and the shed clearance guide covers what to check before taking one down.
