Ratoath grew fast, and so did the storage
Ratoath went from a village to a big town in not much more than a generation. Most of the housing is newer estates of semi-ds and detached houses, with driveways, gardens, and a garage or a shed beside almost every one. The town sits between the M2 and the M3, so for a Dublin crew it's an easy run.
In houses like these, the problem is rarely a whole house that needs clearing. It's the slow build-up. A garage that took the overflow when the second child arrived, an attic filled box by box at every Christmas, a spare bedroom that turned into the place where things go when nobody knows where else to put them. Decluttering, in other words, and estates like Ratoath's are where it comes up most.
Decluttering in rounds
You don't have to do it all at once. Many people clear one space, see how it feels, and then do the next. We price each visit from photos, or the whole plan up front if you already know what's going.
A first round usually looks like this:
- The garage. Bikes, scooters, broken garden furniture, a dead lawnmower, boxes of cables.
- The attic. Baby equipment, old toys, suitcases, decorations nobody puts up any more.
- The shed. Rusted tools, cracked pots, and the shed itself if the roof has gone.
- The spare room. The exercise bike, the old desk, the bags of clothes for "some day".
Before the first visit, go through the garage with the rest of the household and agree what stays. A "keep" corner, or a strip of tape on each thing that's staying, saves time on the day and means nobody's bike leaves by mistake.
For garages specifically, our garage clearance guide has tips on sorting before we arrive, and the garage clear-out page explains how we work. Attics are covered on our attic clearance page, and outbuildings on shed clearance.

Moving house from Ratoath
When the decluttering turns into a move, the job changes shape. Trading up within Ratoath or leaving the area altogether, the split is the same: the removal firm takes what you're keeping, and we take everything else, usually straight after they leave so the house is empty for the handover.
A couple of things to tell us when you book:
- The day the removal van comes, and whether you want us before or after it.
- Anything the buyers are keeping, such as a shed, a fridge or garden furniture.
- Who will let us in if you've already moved.
If you only have a few bulky items to get rid of before the move, junk removal is priced for small loads.

Getting in and out of newer estates
Ratoath's estates are generally easy to work in. Most houses have a driveway, and the carry from the garage or front door to the van is short. The challenges are small but real: cul-de-sacs where every car is home in the evening, shared driveways between pairs of houses, and duplex blocks with a shared stairwell and a management company. For those, see apartment clearance.
We protect the stairs and hall while the attic comes down, keep the footpath clear, and don't leave bags sitting on the drive overnight. A morning start often makes parking easier for everyone.

Bigger reasons for a clear-out
Some Ratoath clear-outs are harder than a garage. A parent may have died, and the family needs to empty the house kindly and without being rushed; our bereavement clearance page explains how we work with families and executors. Or a relative's home may have become so full it's hard to live in, and they need patient, private help; see hoarder clearance.
What we can't take, and what happens to the rest
Most of what's in a house or garage goes with us. The exceptions are hazardous: asbestos, gas cylinders, large amounts of liquid paint or oil, and garden or farm chemicals. Point them out and we'll be straight with you.
The price for each visit comes from your photos. It reflects how much there is, how far it has to be carried, anything with its own disposal route, like a fridge or a mattress, and how long we'll be there. Once agreed, it doesn't change on the day.
Everything else is sorted as it's loaded. Things that someone could use again are set aside, metal and electricals are recycled, and the rest goes to licensed facilities. We're fully insured on every job and hold waste permit NWCPO-25-13287-01 as an authorised waste carrier. Our house clearance page explains a full job, and house clearance in Meath covers the rest of the county.
