Athy and south Kildare
Athy sits on the River Barrow where the Grand Canal meets it, close to the Laois and Carlow borders and well south of the Dublin commuter towns. Our office line is a 059 number, and this part of the county is everyday work for us, not an add-on.
We clear houses, garages, outbuildings and rental properties in the town and out into the countryside, and every job is priced from your photos before it goes in the diary. You get one fixed figure, with no surprises on the day.
What you pay depends on the number of van loads, the carry from house to van, any fridges, freezers, mattresses or electricals that go for separate disposal, and the crew's time on site. Access makes a real difference: a farmhouse with a long walk to a narrow gate takes more time than a town house with the van at the door. Our cost guide explains each factor.
Athy is on the N78, a short run off the M9, with Carlow the next big town to the south and Monasterevin and Kildare town to the north. Athy station, on the line from Heuston towards Kilkenny and Waterford, makes it easy for relatives to come down by train and meet us.
Houses, garages and outbuildings around Athy
Athy's housing is a real mix. In the town there are older terraced and two-storey houses near the centre and along the streets off the square, then estates of semi-ds and newer homes on the edges. Outside the town, it's bungalows, farmhouses and one-off houses, many with a garage, sheds and an outhouse or two.
That mix shapes the job:
- Town houses usually mean street parking and narrower stairs, so we stage the load inside and keep the van outside for as little time as possible.
- Estate homes are mostly about volume: the attic, the garage and the shed. See attic clearance and shed clearance.
- Country houses and farmhouses mean more buildings, more carrying and usually more van loads. Long lanes and narrow gateways are worth a photo too.
- Apartments need a word about stairs, lifts and the management company. See apartment clearance.
Clearing a home after someone has died
After a death, families usually want the same few things: time, care, and confidence that nothing important will be thrown out. That's how we work.
- Nothing is rushed. We can work through a few rooms at a time when the family needs longer with the house.
- Everything is checked. Drawers, wardrobes, handbags, coat pockets and boxes are gone through before they leave the house.
- Personal things are kept aside. Papers, photographs, letters, jewellery and cash are handed to you.
- You decide what stays. Sort through with us on the day, or mark items in advance.
If the family lives in Dublin, abroad or elsewhere in Ireland, we can agree access in advance and send photos as we go. Read more on our bereavement house clearance page. For a house where possessions have built up over many years, our hoarder clearance service takes things slowly and in stages.

Garage clear-outs
A garage in south Kildare is rarely just a garage. It's a workshop, a storeroom, a place for the chest freezer, and the last stop for furniture that didn't fit anywhere else. We empty it, separate metals and appliances for recycling, and leave the floor swept. If you're keeping the tools or the workbench, just say. If there's a chest freezer, switch it off and empty it a day or two before so it's ready to move. More on our garage clear-out page.
Property clearance for sales and lettings
If you're selling in Athy or preparing a rental for new tenants, we remove whatever has to go and leave the rest in place for the estate agent or new owner. Estate agents generally want the rooms empty, or with a few good pieces left to show the space, and the garden and outbuildings clear. Tell us your closing date or lease start, and we'll work back from it. Our property clearance page has more detail for landlords, agents and executors.
Need a property cleared in Athy? Photograph each room, the attic and every outbuilding, add your Eircode, and send it on WhatsApp. We'll reply with a fixed price, usually the same day.
Carpets after the clearance
Once the furniture is out, it's the best time to get the carpets cleaned, whether the house is being sold, let or moved into by family. We clean carpets in Athy too, using hot-water extraction, and you can watch one of those jobs in the video below. See carpet cleaning in Athy. For clearances elsewhere in the county, see house clearance in Kildare.
