Portmarnock homes, and what fills them
Portmarnock sits on the coast road between Baldoyle and Malahide, and its housing reflects the seaside. There are plenty of bungalows and dormer bungalows, especially nearer the sea, alongside family estates built from the 1970s through the 1990s and newer homes and apartments close to the railway station.
What's inside tends to follow the location. Garages and sheds here often hold golf bags, bikes, wetsuits, body boards, beach chairs and windbreaks, along with the usual tools and tins of paint. Indoors it's the familiar mix of furniture, clothes, books and kitchenware, plus whatever has been pushed into the eaves over the years.
Dormers and bungalows: what changes
A bungalow is the easiest house to clear in one way: everything is on one level, close to the front door. The catch is usually the attic. Plenty of bungalow lofts are reached through a small hatch or a pull-down ladder, so boxes come down by hand, one at a time, and we stay on the joists or the boarded sections so nobody's foot comes through the ceiling below.
Dormer bungalows add their own quirks:
- Narrow, steep stairs up to the dormer rooms, so beds and wardrobes often have to come apart
- Eaves storage behind small doors in the sloped walls, easy to forget and often packed full
- Sloped ceilings that make lifting awkward, so we work in pairs on anything heavy

Sheds and garages near the sea
Salt air is hard on anything stored outside. Coastal sheds tend to hold rusted bikes, seized tools, garden furniture and cardboard boxes that have soaked up the damp. We clear the lot, and anything metal goes for recycling. If the shed itself is past saving, we can take it down and away too. See shed clearance and, for the garage, garage clear-outs.
One thing to flag in advance: a few tins of paint are fine, but larger amounts of old paint, oil, chemicals or gas cylinders need specialist handling. Show them in your photos and we'll tell you honestly whether we can take them or who can.

When a bungalow changes hands
Bungalows are often the homes people stay in longest, because everything is on one floor. So when one comes to be cleared, it's frequently after a move into care, a move closer to family, or a death, and there can be half a century of belongings inside.
In those situations we work at the family's pace. You can walk through with us and point out what's staying, sort drawers alongside the crew, or ask us to set aside anything that looks like paperwork, photographs or jewellery so you can go through it later. Furniture in good condition is put aside for reuse where possible rather than going straight to disposal. Our bereavement house clearance page explains how we approach these jobs.
Picking your day
Portmarnock is a beach town in summer. On warm weekends the coast road fills with traffic heading for the Velvet Strand, and parking near the beach disappears. A weekday clearance is quicker and easier for everyone, including your neighbours.
The other thing that shapes timing is your own deadline. If you're working towards a sale closing, a tenancy handover or a family member flying home to help sort things, tell us the date when you send photos. Quotes usually go out the same day, and we'll plan the clearance around the date you need.
Clearing a house in Portmarnock? Send photos of the rooms, the loft, the garage and the shed on WhatsApp. We'll come back with a fixed price.
How the quote works
Send photos of each room, the loft, the garage and the shed, with a note on access: stairs, parking, a lane to the back garden. We'll come back with one fixed price that covers the labour, the van and the disposal. It depends on volume, access, items that need separate disposal such as fridges and mattresses, and how long the crew will need. A full house is usually a one- or two-day job.
For flats and apartments near the station, our apartment clearance page explains how we deal with lifts and management companies. If a home has become very full over the years, we can help without fuss or judgement; see clearing a cluttered home.
