A house that raised a family
Most Finglas homes went up when the estates either side of the N2 were being built, in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Plenty of them are still with the first family, or were until recently. That's the thing to understand about a Finglas clearance: it's rarely a house of clutter. It's a house of decades.
The terraces and semi-ds across Finglas East, West and South are solid and sensibly laid out, usually with three bedrooms, a front room, a kitchen extended out the back and a garden with a shed. Getting things out of them is straightforward. The time goes on sorting what a whole family has put into every press, wardrobe and drawer over a lifetime.
Where the hours go, room by room
A full house in Finglas usually takes a crew of two or three between one and two days. Here's roughly how that time is spent:
| Room | What we usually find | Why it takes time |
|---|---|---|
| Front room | Suite, display cabinet, ornaments, photo albums | Albums and keepsakes are handed back, not binned |
| Kitchen | Presses full of delph, pots, tins and the good glasses | Hundreds of small items, boxed carefully |
| Bedrooms | Wardrobes of clothes, bedding, bags under the beds | Pockets and handbags are checked one by one |
| Box room | Suitcases, boxes and a spare bed | Usually the fullest room in the house |
| Attic | Christmas decorations, school books, old cases | Everything comes down through a small hatch |
| Shed and garden | Tools, paint, bikes, a mower, garden waste | Paint and chemicals are disposed of separately |
If you only need part of the house done, say the attic or the shed at the end of the garden, we price just that.

Papers, photos and things worth keeping
In a house that's held one family for fifty years or more, important things turn up in odd places: a post office book in a coat pocket, a birth cert in a biscuit tin, cash folded into a prayer book. We go through every drawer, box and pocket as we clear, and hand anything like that to you on the spot.
When the clearance follows a death, we go at the family's pace. One room can be done now and the rest left until you're ready; our bereavement clearance page explains how. If a parent's home has become hard to move around in because of the sheer amount in it, we clear it patiently and in stages, without judgement. See hoarder clearance.

Estate roads, greens and the van
Finglas estates are laid out with greens, cul-de-sacs and long terraces, and cars line most roads in the evening. Daytime is easier. A few details help us plan the van:
- A driveway. Many front gardens have been turned into drives over the years. If yours has, the van can often back right up to the door.
- A green in front. Some houses face onto a green rather than the road. Tell us roughly how far it is to the nearest kerb.
- Heavy pieces upstairs. An old wardrobe or a cast-iron bed that went up in pieces will come down the same way.
- The neighbours' cars. If someone usually parks outside your gate, a word the day before saves time on the day.
With the N2 and the M50 on the doorstep, Finglas is quick for us to reach from anywhere in the city.
Handing on, selling or renting
What happens to a Finglas house once it's empty varies. Some stay in the family, with a son or daughter moving in and wanting a clean start. Some are sold, and the agent needs bare rooms for photos. Others are let. Whichever it is, we leave the house empty, with the floors swept or vacuumed where needed.
If the family is keeping a few things in the house for now, such as the beds for whoever is moving in, or the cooker and curtains that are going with the sale, mark them clearly or tell us on the day. They stay exactly where they are, and everything around them goes. For a let or a sale, the carpets are often the next thing people notice; we can clean those too once the rooms are clear.
If there's a garage full to the door, or a relative's flat to clear as well (apartment clearance), put it on the same quote.
Price, sorting and the permit
You'll get one fixed price from your photos before anything is booked. It's based on the volume, how easy the carry is, and items that need separate disposal, such as fridges, freezers, mattresses and electricals. That price is what you pay.
We're fully insured on every job and an authorised waste carrier, permit NWCPO-25-13287-01. Good furniture is kept back for reuse where possible, metal and electricals go for recycling, and the rest goes to licensed facilities.
